  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Just got started...

Well I'd been fighting myself for a while but I'm finally well on my way. Thanks to modifying my ebay searching I was able to pick up a "Last Mission" cabinet locally. Here's the story in bullet form for those bored enough to read it ;):

About the cabinet as received:
* The monitor had very bad burn in,
* Supposedly had no keys for the rear lock, or the change box lock. The coin mech door lock was missing.
* Per the owner the buttons didn't work since someone reached in and ripped on some wires (wiring was all attached, I'll explain later what I *think* happened).
* PCB looks clean and does work because the machine would turn on. Could see some action on the screen and had music. (more later on why I didn't keep it on).
* Cab has some knicks out off the sides up by the CP but otherwise in great condition IMO.
* Bezel, marquee, CP, and acrylic all in good condition. Side decals are generic "Data East" tags.

Since it's been at its new home. AKA, What have I done!?!?:
* Broke into the back of the machine (picked the lock) and found what I think caused the CP failure. I found the missing keys to the front change box, and the rear door! Unfortunately they were sitting on an exposed wire on the power supply. One key and wire severly charred. I decided after seeing that, that it was a good idea not to use the existing power supply.
* Using my newly found keys I gained access to the coin box. $1.50 of quarters in there, plus another $5.00 in quarters stuck in the #2 change shoot. Score, already making money back.
* Replaced the locks on change(term?) door and coinbox door.
* Took out the old 20" shot monitor. Removed my old 20" flat screen tv from it's casing and put it in. Had to modify the harness, but it works great.
* Removed the old hideous leaf switch buttons and replaced them with my happs microswitch buttons. Using a happs competition stick.
