Betson Trackball
« on: October 17, 2002, 09:12:11 pm »
Without my GF's knowlege I ordered a 3" refurb trackball from betson and got it about a week ago ;D then I asked her to get me and IPAC and OPTI-PAC, well I recieved them today :)
She let me hook them up to make sure everything worked but told me I had to box them all up and I couldn't have them till Chistmas :'(
I guess its okay since it will give me time to workout a new layout for my cabinets CP
I also had the problem with the TB felling a little choppy at first, but after about a half hour of playing it felt as smooth as silk with out doing anything to the bearings (no oil/ no cleaner) :)

Anyway I was wondering what people normally set their track sensitivity to.
also
any Ideas on how to get shuffleshot to work without having to spin the TB and hit the up arrow at the same time.

Thanks
Rodney

How nice and how utterly cruel of her.

not familiar with that game though...

I assume she's holding the stuff for a xmas present (or a birthday present)  man I couldn't wait that long...

Good luck...

I have a PS2 betson trackball (3") and I have not adjusted the settings for the analog contros or trackball.  I've been using it at the default settings for all games.  I just find that if you spin it too fast, it creates too much back spin.  Just go easy on it (don't spin it as fast) and see if that helps the situation any.

Regarding shuffle shot, there's a an issue that Smittdog picked up on on the Mametesters page. (The puck gets hung up at the "1" alot making it tough to make a good shot) He has a workaround.

http://www.mameworld.net/mametesters/notbugs.html

I installed the latest Microsoft Intellimouse drivers, diabled mouse acceleration (not really sure if that affects it  ???)

I think my settings are speed 25 and sensitivity at 20%. My trackball is a Golden Tee Golf trackball interfaced through a happs interface that I had lying around. I'm running the latest Mame under Windows 98SE (puter is a Celery 1.7 with 256 meg)

As for the "having to press 1 and move the trackball" I haven't had that problem.

I tried this and it definetly works with my mouse as it works perfect now it just dosn't work with the optipac and my trackball.  :'(

As for the "having to press 1 and move the trackball" I haven't had that problem.

Its the up arrow not the 1 button and this is only with shuffleshot, by doing this it keeps the puck from getting stuck at the 1. the trackball and optipac work perfect with all the other games :)

Maybe when andy gets the usb kit for optipac it will make the difference since it will see the trackball as a usb device instead of serial and it will reconize the intellimouse drivers then.

Thanks
Rodney

My not-so-elegant solution to the ShuffleShot problem was to remap the Player 1 UP to a button, so I can hold a button down with my left hand (which moves the shuffle shot up to the line) and then shoot with the trackball with my right hand.

Sure would like a way around that though, as this looks like an excellent party game......
