Building questions
« on: July 09, 2002, 09:43:42 am »
How do you attach the wood to the cabinet to allow your monitor to sit in it?  Did you screw it into the outside of your cabinet and cover the screws?

I"m about to remove my monitor and remount it... I screwed in from the outside before.  Just wondering what others are doing.

Thats exactly what I did (minus the shelf... my monitor is out of the box.... but I needed the brakets)..

now for a trouble this weekend... removing the old mounting without damaging the wood...

was just wondering if there was any better way to do it.

The side of my cabinet is becoming to look like swiss cheese (no affense to the swiss.... that is the swiss who don't like swiss cheese... the others should be affended in the first place)

I built a shelf for my pc monitor.  I used some scrap wood and cut some blocks, screwed these to the side of the cab from the inside (5 screws each).  I then placed boards across that rest on these blocks and screwed the boards to the blocks.  This more than easily holds the weight of my monitor without poking holes in the artwork on the side of the cab.

Just make a pair  of wood rails screw one to each side of your cab from the INSIDE. use the proper screws so they don't go all the way thru and pop out the sides of your cab. Install your shelf from above the rails it should come down and lay flat acrross the rails. Put a couple of screws down thru your shelf into the rails to keep the  shelf from moving around. Make sure you pre-drill all your holes and if you must use MDF for your monitor shelf screw and glue 2  pieces of it together to make it double thickness.

                     good luck
