I made myself some one player sticks of various styles to "play-test" various sticks, and button layouts.
They are the smaller joystick boards in this picture):

I can do these same layouts, or any other "standard" layout. I can also provide Lexan tops, routered T-moulding grooves, And pre countersunk joystick cutouts.

All parts are cut on a High-End CNC router, and are VERY precise.

What would all consider a "reasonable" price for these?

I'd actually have an interest in one, if it could be custom made with little effort.

Something like the 7-button design featured on the bottom row, but with an additional joystick hole for games like Robotron and Krull.

I like it because it looks portable.

A lexan top would also be nice, but not applied yet, as I'd like to ad some custom art. Definitely the t-mold slot has to be there.

BTW ... What would a good price be for one of those?

Yes, I can make any layout that's somewhat common.

I really don't know what to charge as for price.. I'll try to put one together.

I would snatch one up immediately. Unfortunately I don't have the tools and my shop teacher won't give me access to the shop for "personal" projects so something like this is my only hope.

These would be sold in "kit" form of course to cut down on shipping.

not to stop this, but you've got to think about the shipping. it might be thin if you just ship a board without controls, but mdf is going to weigh alot. but they look good, i'd be interested if you lived close enough to justify it, but probability dictates that your not.

Actually, depending on shipping cost, it might be wise to include some controls, just to make the whole thing a better "value".

I'd be interested in this as well, PM me when you have a price and I'll let you know what type of layout I would like. I would also need to have t-molding slots at the least and would prefer a clear lexan top.

Put one together tonight.

Nice part about the CNC cut panels... No screws required!
I used Titebond glue and clamps, and believe me.. There's no breaking that thing apart! I even jumped up and down on the sides!

I looked around at other pre-made/kit joysticks, and the prices varied quite a bit..

Gamecab.com wants $30-$35 for a blank, undrilled, unassembled wood panel.

slikstick.com wants $125 for a black melamine, assembled(with no buttons/sticks), with t-molding.

I think the easiest thing for me would to offer these panels, unassembled, and predrilled to some standard layouts. (I could offer T-molding slot on the top panel for a small extra charge.)

If I made these panels "slightly smaller" they would fit flat inside a USPS flat rate box, and only cost 7-10 bucks to ship within the Continental US.

My initial guess on pricing is about $40 for a predrilled top, and the sides for the base. +7-10$ shipping.

USPS prepaid has a box with an interior of 13.625" x 11.875" x 3.375"

What about making a longer full CP that comes in 2 pieces. Since it's CNC'd, it should fit together perfectly and you could do a 27.25x11.875 or a 23.75x13.625 CP

$40 is still more than I'd personally pay, but it's just a thought for those (like me) who might like a replacement CP (or 2)

Is $40 for the Single Player or Double player box? $40 seems a bit high for a single player box but reasonable for a 2 player one. Red Octane used to sell single player boxes pre-drilled with vinyl and a drilled plexi cover for $25 but they don't sell them any more. But they could afford to mass produce them.

Any chance you could do some single player boxes based on these blue prints?

Yes, I could add a additional joystick hole. On the lexan, I will have to find out the cost of the materials. I can cut the panel without trouble, but there will be an extra charge to cover the materials/labor.

I will have to find out exactly what my material costs on these will be, and get a more solid idea of what I'd need to sell them for to make this worthwile.

Update:

The smaller control panels and panels to make a base (open bottom) are available for 20$ plus shipping.

The 2 player control panel (The one without the routered dust washer and trackball recess) is available without a base for $20 plus shipping.

I believe that the smaller panel kits will cost around $15 to ship. I don't know what the large panel will cost.

These were prototypes, and are all available immediatly.

custom versions of these panels will be available by request, with a $5 charge for custom button layouts. (Small panels only.)

Completely custom designs would be more expensive, as new router programming would be required.

What I mean by custom button layouts is any thing other than the typical button layouts: Street fighter, Neo-Geo, Mortal Kombat, etc.

I would be willing to include single side routing (I.E. Dustwashers and trackball flush mounting, OR Recessed joystick mounting. Not both. Both requires a great deal of extra work, and configuration of the machine.)

Yes, I would be willing to make those style panels. (I'll have to draw one up and make sure the router can do the required cuts.)
I would especially be motivated to do a "group" purchase, as it's easier to run these in large quantities (A whole 4X8 sheet at a time.)

Routering the joystick mounts and buttons isn't a problem.

Here's the best I could get on the Byrdo Plans.

There is a couple "problems" with them.

1. Unless I am just totally screwing this up somehow, there is a 1/4"+ gap between the rear of the upper panel and the back of the controller. (I could easily correct for this)

2. This panel has 3 parts that need angled cuts to make it assemble properly.
The top panel, the rear panel, and the front panel. These items would increase the price slightly per unit, because the angle cuts need to be manually done, instead of by the router.

This way it only needs 2 angle cuts, and the edges have been radiused for T-molding.

You know what go ahead and can the T-Molding slots idea. You'd have to do those by hand I don't think your CNC machine would do them and that is an awful lot of work for a "group order". Better to keep the work as minimal as possible.

Oh I see I guess tilting it like that would elliminate one of the angled cuts. How much extra would it cost to get that extra angle cut? I kind of like it butter with the back straigh up and down but if it would cost to much extra then angleing it like that would be ok.

The rear panel isn't tilted. I just made a 3/4" Straight section at the very back. That way the top of the rear panel doesn't need to be angle cut.
The notches on the buttons mmay be possible, but they cant have straight inside corners. The minimum radius is 1/4"

So it would have to be a 1/4" wide slot with a rounded end.

If you could send me, or post a image of the dimensioned joystick/button layout, I could add it to the model.

(I had a mistake on my top panel, as I feared.. It doesnt have the gap anymore....
