Should I bother with these cabs?
« on: January 23, 2005, 11:24:59 pm »
The pizzeria I've been going to for a few years has a Super Hang On & some wrestling cab in a hallway going towards the kithchen.  The wrestling cab looks like it may have been a few things over the years.  I remember seeing the Super Hang on turned on when I first started going to this pizzeria, but it wasn't long after that it was turned off.  I haven't seen it on for a long time.  Both games have been unplugged just sitting there for at least 18 months.

If I can get these from the owner...

Questions

The wrestling cab - I could try to figure out what this may have been & try to restore it - is it worth it?  Or would it be best to just make it into whatever?  It doesn't have sideart (painted over black), but does have the wrestling marquee, bezel & CP.  Would this just be MAME material?

Super Hang On - Since this is such a gorgeous, distinctive cab, I'd naturally want to restore to original.  Any ideas how tough it would be to fix/replace the controls on this game if they don't work?

Super Hang-On:

I've got one of those I'm working on- I have an extra steering mech, but I dunno yet if I'll need to steal any parts off of it.

If you do pick it up, or even inspect it, can you find out what kind of monitor is inside?  Mine's missing, and since the whole upper part of the cab basically bolts to the monitor, getting the right one may be important.

Thanks!

Very few games make financial sense to do reverse conversions on anymore. The prices on the classics are dropping, its cheaper to buy the dedicated one than it is to deconvert the converted one.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Kremmit - Yes, if I have the opportunity, I will try to find out what kind of monitor is in the Super Hang On.  It will probably be a week or longer before I have a chance to talk to the owner about these, and probably longer after that until I could get in there to inspect them.  If you can & if it's not obvious, please provide info on how to dissassemble the thing so I can get the infor you need.

Paigeoliver - Thanks.  It's early & I'm tired - but I'll take your comment as 'do whatever you want' with the wrestling cab.  The Super Hang On I would put the effort into because I really like the unique cab design and it would be worth it to me, but the wrestling one is a pretty standard classic arcade style cab that I could make into a lot of things.

On the wrestling cab, it really depends on what it was originally. If it's something you really like and want to own then by all means deconvert it.  Otherwise it sounds like a prime candidate for a MAME conversion to me.

Super Hang On, yeah, I'd keep that one original.

Just had a look at mine- looks as though you'd have to dis-mount the entire white plastic shell to get a look at the monitor.  The Pizza guy is probably not going to dig that idea, so unless you buy it, don't sweat it.  But if you do buy, pics of how it goes together would be great, as mine came dis-asembled.  Also an ID on the monitor, just what brand/model it is.

Thanks!

Roger dodger.  I'll update this post after I have more information.  It may be a couple of weeks.  Thanks.
