Game Pad Hack Problems
« on: January 22, 2005, 10:59:57 pm »
Ahhh! i just spent 5 hours hacking a gamepad and when i tested it in control panel all the buttons where pressed! and my joystick ain't workin! is it the way i wired it or i soldered it? also how much wire should i strip for a quick disconnect and how far in?
Why are all the good, cheap lowboys in brisbane?

My first guess would be that you connected the wires to the "normally CLOSED" tabs on the joystick switches, not the "normally OPEN" ones.

There are three tabs on each switch on the buttons and joystick.
One of these is ground (usually the one off by itself).
The other two should be marked NC and NO on the switch somewhere.
You want the two wires going from the joystick to the gamepad hack to be hooked to the NO tab and the ground tab.

The NO tab only sends a signal when the button (or joystick) is pressed.
The NC tab sends a signal only when the button is NOT pressed.

You should daisy-chain the COM tabs.
Those ARE the ground tabs.

It's the other connection you need to check.

A single mis-solder (like a solder bridge across the contacts) may cause ONE button to stick closed, but shouldn't result in them ALL being closed.
