Dreamcast/PS2 JAMMA conversion PCB!!!!
« on: May 16, 2002, 07:00:09 am »
I'm absolutely falling off my chair writing this...I finally rediscovered the complete solution for everyone trying to put their Dreamcasts or PS2 into their arcade cabinets!

It even shows "Insert Coin" and looks like a real arcade game once you hook it up!

I been looking for a site which sold the MGCD system (Lik-Sang had it on their site for a while, but no longer has it available.)  I found a US site that will sell just the circuit board and connections.

The site sells both Dreamcast and PS2 versions and they verified today that this is the same system, but with a lot more games available via the dipswitches.

The circuit board cost $95, unfortunately the minimum order is $200.  I only want to order one of these.

Anyone else interested in going together?  I live near Cleveland, Ohio and would be willing to drop one off or send another one to anyone interested.

I have pictures of the board and (3-4pages) list of games supported, if your interested email me and I'll forward them to you.

-Regards
John G

I 100% blame Andy!  Yes... if the jpac existed when I started my project, I would still have jamma compatibility!  (jk)

I love the idea, and wish I could help you.  I want to convert a DC myself, but will have to do it the old fasion way.

man, I would have saved a ton if jpac was out when I started thought.  I have a perfectly good 19" monitor just rotting away (until I get my cocktail table going)

I remember when these first came out on Lik-Sang ($500-$600).  The supported game list was quite small.  Looks like they've added support for more games (but still not every game will work with this box).  I do like the new price of $95 for just the board.  But I really don't like the Jamma setup (limited number of buttons/players).  I found it much more enjoyable to wire up my own control panel the way I wanted it.  Hacking the VGA adapter for 15khz output to my arcade monitor was also very easy.

So the only thing the MGCD setup gives you is real arcade "insert coin" type play  (I don't plan on charging my friends to play  ;) )  and you can use the existing jamma control panel (which may not support all the buttons needed for most DC games).

The $95 price is pretty good considering a  2 controllers is $20-$30, vga adaptor is $20,  the headache of wiring and possbile frying your DC.

The games listed are mostly arcade versions, I don't really plan to play an adventure game, so it's pretty cheap considering.

And it's pretty slick seeing friends experience real arcade games via a DC (by the way you can put it on "Free Play" via a dipswitch.)
