Why for does Homestar not dance?
« on: January 19, 2005, 07:40:56 am »
My avatar was just fine for the longest time, arrows all going up the screen, Homestar all dancin' arround.  Now all of a sudden it's a lifeless picture, what gives?
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

It appears you uploaded the pic to BYOAC directly. Keep in mind that if you do this, it will be converted to PNG and will loose its animation characteristics (as PNG does not support this). There are two ways to fix this:

  • Host the avatar yourself using the configuration option in your profile.
  • Send or attach the GIF and I will put it in the standard collection of avatars to select from.

I never uploaded anything.  I selected "I have my own pic" and put in the space provided: http://www.geocities.com/crashwg/homestarddr.gif but when I click the change profile button and go back to the same page it is again pionting to the .png version.

I know why. Your homestardr.gif is to big to display. I had the setting "download and resize if to large" even if you referenced an external avatar. I have set it to "HTML resize only." Go to your profile and set the external reference again.

For reference, if you go bigger than 80x80, the forum will have resized it. It didn't affect moderators or admins as we have higher permissions on that feature.

Well that explains it!  Anyone know an easy way to resize my gif and still have it look good?

I've got a solution, but if you scream like a girl ONE MORE TIME......

Go to www.gifworks.com and you'll be able to do what you wish with your picture there - BUT ONLY IF IT'S A .GIF.....I don't wanna hear you crying about how that page doesn't work with your .jpeg's and whatnot.....I'll have to get all medevial on your arse.

Now, like I said before....toughen up sally.....everything's gonna be ok.
You’re always in control of your behavior. Sometimes you just control yourself
in ways that you later wish you hadn’t

crashwg,

Keep in mind if you do this again, it'll just be resized by HTML code, so you shouldn't have to worry. If it doesn't look right by doing regular HTML resize, then go with the solution that Drew gave you.
