trackball mounting question

Quick question about mounting the trackball.

I have a 2 1/4" trackball and bought a mounting plate from Bob Roberts. The plate has 4 holes for mounting to the wood and 4 more for attaching it to the trackball itself.

Unfortunately, now I see that there are mounting kits out there with the studs already attached so no bolts are needed on top.

My question is this. I routered out the shape of the plate so it will be flush and it fits very tight. Could I add some double-stick tape or some sort of adhesive under it and then rig up some kind of bracket under the CP to hold the trackball in place? Would that be strong enough? (btw, there will be an overlay over the plate as well.

I don't think any kind of adhesive or tape will be strong enough to hold up to the abuse that a trackball might take. What I would suggest you do is find some countersunk screws with small heads and try to screw down the plate as tight as possible. With some luck the screws should sit flush with the plate. If not, bust out a dremel or something similar and try to smooth it out. If not, you can try and rout the hole for the plate out a bit deeper, then screw it down as tight as you can, and bondo over it. Sand the surface nice and smooth, and make sure the hole for the trackball stays intact. Just a couple of ideas, let me know if you need some more help.

I don't think tape will work.
You'd probably be better off getting the right plate for your application.
