*WANTED* GUITAR FREAKS HARDWARE
« on: January 17, 2005, 11:48:16 pm »
i'm looking for Guitar Freaks hardware such as pcb's or controllers.  so if anyone goes to an auction with a destroyed machine, or a gutted machine with the controllers left or something weird like that, i'd be interested.  or if anyone knows where i might find something like this.  i'd be interested in any of the eleven mixes for pcbs, and all the controllers are the same.  thanks guy's for looking out for this.

Your best bet woiuld be to see about getting some of the cheap generic PSX guitars and modding them.

The software isn't that hard to get, as long as you expect to pay import prices. The knock off controllers are everyplace. Now finding a Konami made GF guitar controller, that's the trick.

i've looked at the psx games and controllers and wasn't to happy with the controllers.  do they have parts so you can get a wailing bonus?  also, i'd have to get inport psx and games, right?  also, wouldn't that make all the music in jap?  i absolutly love the rediculousness of the arcade game and would love to recreate it for home use even if it cost me 1000 bucks to get all the right arcade stuff to do it.  i just figured with all the other arcade stuff that gets thrown out and sold, that there would be the possobility of coming accross stuff for guitar freaks at relatively resonable prices.

so what it all boils down to is that i'm really interested in the arcade game and hardware, but i'd still like to know the possibility of running it off psx.  and thanks for the input guys.

well you can buy the official konami controller here, which is the best one out : http://www.toysnjoys.com/guitarfreaksgames.html

you realize that IF you actually find a guitar freaks machine, i doubt you would find just a PCB, they cost like 3000 just for a low mix like 4thmix. unless youre really rich i dont think you have an option besides PS2

what do you mean about the music being in jap? you know any guitar freaks machine you find in an arcade is japanese imported, they dont make them here, except maybe they made 1st mix US but that sucks. You need a japanese or a modded US PS2 (i prefer japanese, no hassle), and you can order the games right on www.play-asia.com. its really a no brainer, check out my setup i have going for IIDX and PopN right now, its not done but its functional

Hey, I got my GF controllers at Toys'n'joys! I'm suprised they still have any. Great outfit. Not cheap tho.

BTW Seph... how much did your Pop'n'music controller cost you to build? PM me!

And Flinkly, you tilt the PSX guitar for wailing bonus, just like the arcade. The Konami controllers are real nice... just a bit too small. I don't see why you couldn't possibly use a PSX controllers guts and make an arcade guitar into a PSX one...

Ahhhhh... they're used. And expensive. Yeah, those Konami guitars are just hard to find these days.

You can get the knock off ones on ebay new for $20, so I'm sure if you check the HK importers you can probably get them for under $20 easy.

ok, ok...

i've got a guitar freaks game in town at the local 5 cent arcade and if i remember right, the singin is in english...or is there no singing?  quite frankly that was the least of my intention during a hardcore gaming day...

so all the guitar controllers pick up on the wailing bonus and thus i could make my own arcade guitars to use with an imported psx.

do all the guitar freaks games for psx run on psone or ps2?

and so sinc i'd be running imports, wouldn't everything be in jap?

thanks for answering all the questions...

im guessing your not that familiar with japanese gaming/culture. but they use english in a lot of games / advertisements/ everything these days. Its mandatory to learn basic english in school there for i think 6 years now.

But yeah, that is indeed a japanese Guitar Freaks, they just sing in english sometimes.

If you got a japanese PS2 which run about 170$, it would run all the GF games out right now which are 1-3 on PS1, 4thmix GF/DM combined game is on PS2. I hear theyre coming out with new mixes for PS2 soon and releasing a new controller sometime this year but there is no set date on this so dont hold your breath.

Almost all menus should be in english btw, on my PopN and IIDX games you dont need to know any japanese at all to use the game , song titles are in english.

edit:  oh yeah, the PopN controller was 90$ for the dome buttons, i also have 2 normal buttons you cant see for start /select (although i found out that pressing both whites is the same as select so you dont need it). and a hacked PS controller and some wood/spray paint.

whole thing cost me like 120$ probably , sold as a rock. used 1/2 MDF
