Input Profilier Questions/Ideas
« on: January 16, 2005, 03:38:08 pm »
I have been doing a fair amout of gaming on a PC for the last decade or so. Back in the old Space ORB and MS Sidewinder days and currently with my Belkin Nostromo the manufacturer provided a game profilier. Basically it sat in the system tray and it allowed you to have a set of key mappings for each executable that was launched. This would be nice for a cabinet with quite a few different emulators running. Most of the standard keys are uniform or configurable like, up, down, left, right and fire. However, a lot of the emulators don't allow you to specify your own keys for things like, start, pause, reset and so forth. I don't have an iPAC but I believe it MAY allow for this by the loading of different files but I hear this this takes a little time when it writes a new config to the device. Or maybe a larger storage chip on the iPAC type device that would allow more configs to be stored then you could just call them. Can anyone add anything to this or is there something I am missing? I am considering adding two more buttons to my cabinet. One for reset and one for pause, but the issue is, what do I set them to. I currently use a Hagstrom KE-72T controller.

Thanks,
John
