Now i'm sure you've heard this a thousand times before...
« on: January 13, 2005, 07:16:43 pm »
So get this, after joining this forum yesterday, browsing all the great forum posts and people, I've come to the conclusion that I need to start my own cab project..

I want to build a desktop cab kind of like this one I've seen for sale on mameworld and all that I think it's called LUNA ARCADE.  It's very small and would be perfect for my single wide trailer room (yes it's small).

So basically I'm wondering if I should really get myself into this, I'm sure it will cost alot, and be alot of dedication but I believe that I will be able to accomplish this with the help of all you great forum members.

So the real question is where should I start?

Buy saint's book? What sites should I start looking at, should I build the cab first, etc??

I know this site has alot of info
but I'm one of those people that needs to be told what to do first
so if anyone wants to help me please p.m. me or reply.

thank you again everyone

Matt

Buy saints book is a good start.

It's not as small as the pics make it look... The cabinet is 17.3" W x 26.4" H x 26" D.  I thought about a mini too until I realized it would probably take up more space than I wanted it to.  The Lunacade looks sweet though.  Anyway, I'd buy Saint's book - it is awesome.  Welcome!

I would read everything you can get your hands on (including saints book) for the first 2-3 months. Then you will know enough to make a decision on exactly you want and need.

I think rushing in before investing that amount of time will result in something you won't be happy with. Besides, the learning part should be fun & not a chore.

Good luck!! :)

Yeah I agree, I probably spent 6 months reading every example in the "examples" section that I could, it definately paid off.

Awesome Geo thanks for the info!!!

Living out here in the desert you see alot of trailers and such so this is exactly what I need for my extremely small room (until I move out of the parents, hehe).

So thanks again and hopefully my friend can help me with everything.

He converted his MK2 arcade maching after he tried to hook up his 3do to and and it messed it up, changing the blood to black.

But I think he could help because after all of that he turned it into a Sega CD/Sega genesis.  I think he knows how to hack the controllers and everything seeing as he did it himself.

thanks again!

Matthew

Yes Geo told me of a site that has plans for bartops.  I believe that this is the ONLY option for my limited space...That and I'm sure it's a lot cheaper than a full cab..

I feel kind of stupid though wanting to get into this whole hobby, seeing as I've never taken apart anything in my life, let alone woodworking.

But hey, everyone has to start somewhere!!!

I just hope I don't have to be super smart to put one of these together....ha ha

thanks again for all the info you guys!!!

I was wondering if there's anyone in the Tucson/Phoenix Arizona area that would be willing to help me put a bar top together, Of course i'll pay for the supplies + labor..

I just hope that by finding someone in my area, they can recommend me what kind of second hand computer I should get, etc., in a hands-on fashion.

I seem to learn best when someone is making direct eye contact with me in person...I can't drift off into my own world and I have to listen!! haha..

Thanks again everyone!!
