Coin mech wiring

Hi guys,

I won a coin mech on ebay & am trying to get it to work, unfortunatley I can find almost nothing about either parts of it & was wondering if any of you guys either know of a good place to look or actually have one, I have:

Mars Electronics MS 111 TS 5 Coin Validator

&

Philip Shefras Spares "blue board" that I assume is the bit that sends out the signals to the game/pc

All I have been able to find out is the dip switch settings for the blue board

Anyone able to help?

cheers, I will have a look at that, it is ste Shefras board that is the main problem though as I assume that it is the bit I will need to connect to the pc.

I want to connect mine to a JPac, but unfortunately the coin mech runs at 12v, which is too high for the J-Pac - so I've left it disconnected.
My friend reckons a simple transistor circuit could be my answer?

I have some instructions for the board but they are on paper at the moment.
If no one else replies I'll try and scan them on Monday.

Why don't you just pull 12 volts off an unused drive connector on your computer's power supply?

Yeah, use a drive power connector, the yellow lead is the 12v (incase you didnt know ) & either of the black leads for the ground.

If you could scan it that would be great! - The guy I bought it from has faxed me a sheet, but most of it is un read-able

Right, I have it working now & want to know, can I connect both credit buttons of the ipac to the same button?

I would have thought that would put a credit in P1 and P2 (simultaneously) each time one credit was added to the coin mech??
Like pushing 2 buttons at the same time? Dunno for sure though.

Is the 12v issue only an issue of powering the coin mech (from the JAMMA connector (j-pac)) -
I have a PSU in my cab with 12v which is wired to the JAMMA connector at the 12v pins - I assume the J-pac has no connections at the 12v and 5v pins - so no damage can be caused.
My concern was that the Coin1 pin on the JAMMA had 12v on it - the J-Pac instructions implied a 12v pulse from the coin mech. I see that the J-Pac treats the Coin1 and Coin2 just like ordinary buttons - (active low).
Do coin mechs (even 12v ones) make Coin1 go active low?

Hi me again

I was just wondering - you use your coin mech with a J-Pac (or I-Pac).

The output to Coin 1 (or Coin 2) from the coin mech, is just an Open connection (no volts) which connects to Ground when a coin is inserted - is that right?

So the 12volts I'm worrying about frying the J-Pac with, never actually gets involved with the 'Coin 1' connection. The 12volts is purely to power the coin mech. - Is that right?

Sorry to sound a bit dim - but I just want a little more confidence before I plug the coin mech into my J-Pac 'Coin 1' pin. The J-Pac instructions are a bit scarey when it comes to coin mechs.

I have mine plugged into an ipac-2 & it is currently connected to both coin inputs 1 & 2. As far as I know, all it does is when a coin is inserted into the coin mech, the mech sends a signal to the shefras board (which, I think only has the 12v supply to power its self & the actual coin mech) the shefras board then sends power to a soleniod (sp?) which is just a powered switch.

So once the coin is inserted, assuming the mech is set to give say 6 credits for in my case

So there's no volts on the 'Coin 1' because it is effectively an open switch to ground.
