Cabinet/plans that fit a 20'' tv well?
« on: January 11, 2005, 04:18:49 pm »
Hi guys, I did some searching, but could not find what I was looking for...

I have a 20'' tv that has speakers on the sides. it's 23 inches across, and 18 inches top to bottom.

I was thinking about using the plans from jakobuds site. A mortal kombat cabinet looked good, but will a 20'' tv look goofy in there? I'm going to be playing mostly fighters.

I'm keeping the speakers on the sides, as I would like to keep this a working fine tv. Should I save up and get a bigger tv?

Anyone know of any plans that fit 20 inch tv's well? (it's a flat screen, if it matters.)

I can't find any examples on here of cabinets with 20'' tv's.

Thanks!

It should look good in any older, classic style cab.

The newer, bigger cabs might be a bit oversized for a 20 inch TV.

If I'm not mistaken, a MK cab is meant for a 25 inch monitor.

If I'm not mistaken a classic Midway style cab is exactly 23 inches wide on the inside.

You could always build your cabinet according the Project Arcade/Lusid plans and cut a bezel to fill in the space around the tv.

It may not look quite as good as if the TV fit the space, but you'd then have to option of replacing it with a bigger tv later.

I may do this myself, as I'm only going to be building one of these things.

I think your right. A classic style Midway cabinet is 25 inches, from outside to outside.

I guess this would be my best bet. I don't really like the bigger, newer plans, and my game room is small as it is.

Any examples? anyone else have any ideas?

Use a 19" set instead, decase the TV and mount it in an arcade frame.

A 20" TV would be about perfect for a vertical classics cab like pacman or donkey kong.   Not sure if that's what they mean by a classic midway cab.

Sorry, I'll be using an "extra" tv I have, to save on the money. I also said I would like to keep the TV in good condition.

I know, but this is going to be more of a fighter cabinet, although it will still have the greats. I mean, how can NOT play Defender?
