If it makes you feel any better, I've ordered every part for my arcade (with the exception of the cab) through the US postal service. The high dollar items are always insured, and at very good rates. To give you an idea, $1000 worth of goods cost about $11.50 for 100% coverage. Its not going to weigh more than the USPS max limit of 70lbs, since its an LCD screen and not CRT.
I'm also a network admin and the main guy on base for ordering computers and parts for each squadron and flight. They all come through USPS. They may take a while to get here, but they do, and never get damaged. Most of our computers are Dells, since they give really good gov. discounts. We have to plan on about an extra 2-3 weeks for parts to arrive from the states with regular shipping, and 1-2 weeks for priority mail. Stuff sent through military P.O. boxes are all routed to NY first for processing, then sent overseas to their respective destinations.
I can totaly understand your concern, but its not that hard to get things sent to a someone who's deployed. For a sender in the states, you pay no extra shipping fees other than what it costs to send the item to NY. All you are required to do is slap a declaration sticker on the package stating what it is and its value. You keep a blue reciept and if anything happens to it, take your reciept and file a claim with your local post office.
For me to place an order for anything stateside, I have to make sure its not going to weigh over 70lbs. Thats going to be the biggest pain for me since I still need a monitor (80-90 lbs).
