« on: January 07, 2005, 02:38:28 am »
Hey guys Im looking to buy an empty midway cab if any one has one to sell.
The one that styled like Mortal Kombat, 90's era.
Here is a picture of an example of the cab
http://www.i2.i-2000.com/~hagames/images/cab-1.JPG, I'm sure you all know
the type. There is one on ebay right now
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6144171109&rd=1,
but it's too far away for me. So if anyone has a cab like this they are
wanting to sell or get rid of please please please please please contact me
at ecousticforkris@insightbb.com and we'll go from there.

You might want to edit your title.

In the industry a Midway cab is a Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man cabinet (or any of the other ones like Galaxian that take the same control panels), and what you are looking for is a Mortal Kombat cabinet.

This is important, otherwise you might make a deal for a Midway cab, drive 300 miles and see a MIDWAY CAB staring back at you when you get there, and not the Mortal Kombat cabinet you want.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Arent the NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, NFL BLITZ, NBA HANGTIME all in similair cabinets. These are all midway games. I also added in my post "90's era, Mortal Kombat style". I suppose I'll change it for your sake Paige

I've got a High Impact Football in Chattanooga.

It's very similar to that style.

(It's a few years before the one you have a pic of)

I'll try to swing by the location its at and snap a few pics for you.

Yes, all those are Midway games, but the term Midway cab means Pac-cab.

Midway Cab = Pac-Cab

Data East cab = Curved marquee cab (Bad Dudes)

Atari Cab = 1979-1983 Atari cabinets

Stern cab = Any of the cabs with the same shape as Berzerk.

It is important to know this stuff because operators and collectors giving away stuff are NOT going to take pictures for you.

Also, there really isn't much aesthetic difference between Mortal Kombat cabs and Konami cabinets from the same era. You might just be better off asking for 25" cabinets in general.

maybe if you dont have tools? How much do you think youll get the cabinet for? 3 peices of mdf is about 60 bucks, a few 1 by 2's for supports. 70 bucks. Do you not have tools? thats what would make it expensive, but maybe you could borrow from someone or rent from a hardware store. Just tryin to help, you wouldnt wanna pay alot for an empty cab when you could probably build the same empy cab for much less. Cya, Doug.  ;)

The MK cab is a bit different from the later Jam and Blitz cabs. It's a touch smaller IIRC, and has angled corners on the front panel.

This is true but then you have a big wooden box.  The good thing about buying one, and what makes a lot of people think its worth it is all the incidental stuff you dont' give a lot of thought to.  A bought cab might be painted, come with controls, bezels, monitor glass, marquee retainers, coin doors, etc etc.... you add that all up and it's a much better deal if you can get a nice price on a cab.

I figured he meant "an empty cab" with nothing but an empty wooden box. Also, if its empty and has been torn apart, i wouldnt  imagine it would have a perfect paint job anyways. Maybe Im wrong though, i was just trying to help. When using detailed plans building isnt that hard. I just thought maybe ud get what you want by saving some money.  8)

Oh, I knew exactly what you meant.  I thought the same way.  But most times you buy a cab there is at least SOMETHING left, ya know?  So a lot of times, if not all, its actually cheaper to buy an old cab then build a new one.  That's no reason to not build though, I'd love to build one myself when I get the chance.

I just wanted to say that money isn't really a good argument for this... custom built machines will usually work out to be much more expensive.  :)   But hey... this isn't a cheap hobby either way heh.

ID consider buildin one maybe if you payed me twice what it cost to build, im thinkin it would be around 60 dollars (allready have screws, tools, just would need bout 3 sheets of mdf), so maybe 120? I live in Illinois. Im not sure yet though, just reply if youd maybe be interested in that, and id see what I could do ( dont know how much money i got right now).
