can you take a TV screen out of its box to use it in a cab?

well the title says it all really, just wondering though if you can (by a qualified person of course, dont want to die here ) remove the screen part of the tv and mount that into the cab?
if you can what are the things to look out for/things that you'll need, not counting the getting it out of the box bit, solely keeping it usable within the cab. does it need stuff to mount it in? can you still interface with it easily? anyone done this?

You can take it out of it's case and mount it. However, most TVs use pretty much all the available space in the case anyway, so you probably won't make it much smaller. Also, it won't have any sort of metal frame around all the internals to use for mounting it, like you'd get with an arcade monitor.

The process should be virtually identical to taking a PC monitor out of it's case and mounting it, which is described in this thread:

If you decide to do this, please learn how to safely discharge the thing first. One of the reasons it's in a case is to stop you electrocuting yourself (the tube is basically a big capacitor that will hold a charge for ages, even if it hasn't been plugged in for a while).

I have done this for my cocktail table.  I have a 24" TV uncased in there.  It wouldn't fit with the case, because it was designed for a 23" monitor.  Taking off the case gave me a way to suspend the tube and make it fit in the machine.

The tv's controller board is moundted to the wall of the cab behind the TV.  I just have the video card's S-Video cabled to the TV's.  Works like a charm.

also--be aware that some tv's keep a charge on the board as well--I just fixed an rca and even with the tube discharged and disconnected it gave 2 or 3 good zaps from the board--need to let the caps discharge--shouldn't take to long with the tube disconnected and no power to the board.

Interesting read, I've been thinking about removing the case of a PC monitor to fit on my cocktail cabinet (in construction).  Any more detailed instructions on how to remove the Casing of the PC monitor.

this web site seemed to saying you needed to buy one of their adaptor/transformer things.
is it possible to instead keep the RCA IN's and OUtS ( whatever plugs the tv already has) and use those instead??
and as for finding a place to take the tv out for me (i value my life  ), what would you guys recommend? a TV repair guy?
