Hi
i have a setup where i will have (1) TV (1) Xbox (1) PS2 and i would like both the xbox and ps2 to be connected to the sound system so i dont need to unplug and replug one or the other in and out all the time when i change between them.
i have two AV IN's on my TV and one AV OUT and so was hoping to have a setup where i could have the consoles in the AV 1 & 2 IN's and a line from the AV OUT to the sound setup. is this ok?
Yes, this will work just fine. One thing to look into would be whether or not the audio outputs from the TV are variable or fixed. If they are variable then the volume coming out of your amp/speakers will could be adjusted using the TV volume control.
Are you going to be using a computer in the cabinet as well? If so, do you have a third input on the television?
second part of this question is about the sound setup i dont really want to have to buy seperate amps etc... so thouhgt i'd use a PC/Console speaker/sub setup (i assume the amp is in the sub for those) something along the lines of the 5.1 solutions offered by Logitech. but the way i want to have this mounted in/on my cab is as follows, the center speaker in in the top bit (under the marquee) where most speakers seem to be mounted in cabs, and the L and R on the sides on the cab, sub in the back and the RL and RR extended and in the back of the room somewhere. now only thing is the little itsy bitsy speakers that come with logitech type 5.1 solutions would look a tad silly mounted on the side, so i was hoping to be able to replace the L and R with some Book Shelf speakers that i quite like and are at a very acceptable price.
only i dont know if this is possible, andif it is what to look out for when getting the 5.1 speakers as i heard you need to match the ohms but i am really not sure.
i need some advice on:
-how to splice/things to look out for when choosing the speakers to splice
-or any other solutions that i may not have considerd.
-plenty more but i forget what atm lol
anyway here are some pics to help illustrate what i want to do:
NOTE: as an after thought here are the bookshelf speaker specks .
* 5" woofer + 1" tweeter
* Bass Reflex Speaker System
* Rated Power - 50 W
* Maximum Power - 100 W
* Impedance - 8 Ohms
* Sensitivity - 86 dB
* Frequency Response - 45Hz - 20kHz
* Binding Post Speaker Terminals
* Dimensions (H x W x D) - 33.0 x 16.0 x 24.2 cm
* Weight - 3.95 kg ⁄ pc
I would recommend getting a 2.1 speaker system for your cabinet. The two speakers could go under your marquee and the sub in the cabinet itself. The reason I am not recommending a 5.1 system is that they are generally made for movies/video. If you plan on watching a lot of DVDs/video on your system, then maybe you should go this route. In a 5.1 setup the center channel generally is used for vocal frequencies. I wouldn't think this would be very prominent in gaming, at least not prominent enough to justify a full 5.1 system. The same goes for the surround speakers. The choice is up to you though.
Also, if you do go with a 5.1 system and use the larger bookshelf style speakers, check the output rating on the system you choose to make sure you have enough power to push them. You can blow out speakers by underpowering them as well as overpowering them.
Hope this helps,
