People w/ DC PSX Controller Adapters
« on: October 11, 2002, 01:59:31 pm »
Sort of off topic but I figure there may be people here with some knowledge about this.

I recently acquired a DC and want to use my control sticks (PSX) on it. From what I hear the adapters map buttons differently, specifically the shoulder buttons. Some map:

(PSX) R1, R2 => (DC) R and (PSX) L1, L2 => (DC) L

Where as others may do,

(PSX) R1, L1 => (DC) R and (PSX) R2, L2 => (DC) L

I'm looking for option 2. I don't want R1 and R2 to register as the same button press. I'd appreciate anyone that has some and knows what I'm tlaking about letting me know what models they have and where they got them. Thanks a lot.

There is only 1 way and that is,

psx/L1=dreamcast L
psx/R1=dreamcast R

From what I know and tested(several converters). :D

Yeah, I'm more concerned with R2 though. If R2 is R also, then I'm screwed. If R2 is L then I'm okay. I know the Innovation converters used to be the way I want them, but I can't find them anywhere anymore (esp with lik-sang's current situation). Thanks for the reply.

PSX.R1 and PSX.R2 = DC.R
PSX.L1 and PSX.L2 = DC.L

This is for the most common adaptor sold on Liksang, LevelSix, etc

The way I mapped mine was mainly for fighting games

My control panel has 10 buttons arranged like so:

o o
        o o o o
        o o o o

The top two are PSX.Select and PSX.Start/DC.Start
The first four is the obvious mapping since the button arangement on the DC and PC for those 4 buttons is IDENTICAL.

The last four are as follows:

PSX.L1/DC.L        PSX.R1

PSX.R2/DC.R        PSX.L2

In Street fighter on a PS the buttons are:

Jab     Strong      Fierce               Roundhouse
Short  Forward   Roundhouse     Fierce

In Street fighter on a DC the buttons are:

Jab       Strong      Fierce             Fierce
Strong  Forward   Roundhouse   Roundhouse

All you really care about though is the first 6 buttons.

Hey, thanks for the response. Your setup looks good but unfortunately my sticks already have R1/R2 as the outside two.

I actually just found yesterday an adapter that does:

L1/R1 -> R
L2/R2 -> L

It's called the Innovation Dreamcast Dream Connect II. Their webpage is http://www.innovation1.com.
