Speaker Madness, or splicing/Amp and speaker woes
« on: January 01, 2005, 11:38:16 pm »
HI i have just started buying the parts needed for my Cab, and i just have the speakers left, originaly i was going to put a 10" sub in the belly of the cab and have two bookshelf speakers on the L/R sides of the cab (for a total of 3 speakers) up till there all was going good, i had tracked down the speakers etc and was about to buy when i found out that the amp in the sub was not enough/designed to power the bookshelf speakers and that i would need a seperate amp (raising the price quite a bit)
now i was wondering what my options are here, as i am not that keen on useing PC speakers (as i want to have good sound if i play music throught it/DDR) i am not that familiar with how good the logitech type speakers/subs for PC are,. idealy i'd like a sub that had an amp in it sort like what you get when buying PC sub/speakers.
which leads me to my next question, is it possible if i get some logitech-ish PC/sub combo (with just two sat speakers L/R and one sub) to splice the bookshelf speakers onto that...anyway i'm going to rattle of the bookshelf speaker speks off in the hope that one of you out there has any thoughts :)

Rate Power 50W
Max Pw 100W
8 ohms
86 dB
45HZ ~ 20kHZ

one other issue i have is that i had intended on plugging my PS2 and Xbox(the guts of the arcade) into the AV1 and 2 plugs  and then running cable form the AV OUT plugs to the speakers, that way i dont have to run sound form the xbox to the speakers directly and then when i switch to PS2 i dont have to get down on my knees and un plug the xbox and plug in the PS2...any thoughts....totally lost here  :o

Well, let me know all the parts that you have. I am unclear wether you have an amp and a sub or what. From there on hopefully I can give you a hand.

well i dont actually have any of the parts yet, cause i didnt want to buy a whole bunch of stuff only to find out it wasnt going to work.

NOTE: It seems these links dont work for some reason, check the post, 2 posts down, for newer links/intructions if those dont work either...sorry about that

here are the book shelf speakers (no pic unfortunatly)

here is the sub (pic inside)

they wanted me to get this amp for the lot: (pic inside)

NOTE: i just saw this would something like this also work (might fit better too)

Ok so those are the parts i'm looking at, if  i were to go the PC speaker way i'd get your average 2 speaker and a sub setup, but i havn't really looked into that yet.

MY TV has TWO (2) RCA (those red yellow and white) plugs one DVD input (which seems to be just another RCA with some blue red and green plugs next to it) and one RCA OUT (again just Yellow red and White)

i wouls like to have it so that Both the PS2 and XBOX could be hooked up to the TV and sound at the same time, to make switching between them easyer, i was thinking of just running sound out from the RCA OUT to the amp/whatever i end up with. but i was getting mixed opinions as to wether this would be too much daisy chaining for the audio signal.
so there you have it need any more info just let me know  ;

LOL, yeah i guess my questions are a bit vague to expect a flood of answers   :P

but maybe if i clarify a bit:

would it be possible to splice the bookshelf speakers onto a PC/console speaker + sub setup. where the bookshelf ones would be replacing the sat speakers, and thus be attached and hope fully driven by the sub.
i say this because i assume that in PC setups the sup also contains the amp, so i wouldn't need an extra amp...is this correct?

so if this is possible (i have the feeling it isnt) what are the things i should be looking for when locating a sub that will be compatible with the bookshelf speakers...
NOTE: all details as to speaker speks are in the post above

HOLY COW! i justr realised NONE of my links acctually are linking to what they should be linking to!!!
now that doesnt help at all...let me see if i can fix

This is a test to see if i can get the links working...
OK they seem to be working...i am at a loss as to why the other ones didnt work  ???
these are the book shelf speakers
http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/41d8a64901e1e1702741c0a87f9c074a/Product/View/A2667

this is the amp
http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/41d8a64901e1e1702741c0a87f9c074a/Product/View/A2760

this is the sub
http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/41d8a64901e1e1702741c0a87f9c074a/Product/View/A2669

IF those links also stop working, then in the search bar to the right you can type "speaker" in the search bar and select "DSE products" in the drop down menue
then they are the the ones called "DSE BookShelf Speaker Black pr" and from there they have links to the rest in the "related products" bit (just under the description...sorry about all this, hope the links stay working)
