  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
I decided to heed everyone's advice and not start cutting up a 25 year old cab that was in such good shape.

What condition is the original control panel? Or for that matter, would you want this new one to fit in as far as the art is concerned?

Reason I ask is that www.ArcadeShop.com sells a repro control panel overlay for that cab.

Here is the original:

It's in great shape, and yes I may make an overlay for it so it looks more authentic.  For now just using white formica was the easy way to do it, but I just need a way to use the original theme with 14 buttons and 2 joysticks instead of just 3 buttons.

I only have the 1 cab.  The reason I bought this cab was to make a mame cab out of it.  But I'm preserving the original cab and not cutting anything up.  If I ever wanted to put the original game/cp back in it, it would take me about 20 minutes and it'd be back to normal.

Looks good and stays functional.  :)

Believe me, that cab would have made for a sucky 4-player cab.

Good job Tokey, I never got to see what he original CP looks like until now.
The jackleg who maimed mine cut a jagged rectangle in it and mounted wood underneath to mount his misaligned buttons and sticks on, then put a Capcom overlay sticker on top!  Looks like warmed-over crap so I'm gonna restore as much as feasible.
So you can see why we cringe when nearly new cabs are used for MAME.  Looks like you got the respect idea and have gained ours as well.
Fine looking work!   ;D  ARCADIAC!

Oh man, I had one of those last week, I just desided to paint it green and make a mortal kombat CP for it, I had to cut out holes in the sides because the TV i was gonna put in it had speakers on the sides. It works great!

 ;D

Good job! Glad you desided on saving the poor things life.

Alright... now would you leave the monitor as it is, or make it more horizontal like it was originally?

Lay the monitor back at the original angle.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I prefer my monitor a little more upright, so your current angle looks pretty nice to me.  I'd play it for a sesson ot two and see how you feel about it.

Make the cpo true to the original design like mine. That way people don't know what to think....I never turn down an opportunity to post a pic of my cab.
