Bezel glass

Does anyone think it's a good/bad idea to used smoked glass in front of the monitor in yer cabs?  I'm just about ready to get  some glass cut, but I'm unsure whether I should use tinted glass or not.

I'm kinda curious if it stops remote control signals or light gun signals though

It certainly doesn't stop TV remote signals getting through, at least not for me through my grey tinted glass .  Don't know about light guns though...damn that's summat else I'm after now

Generally, most favor tinted glass. There's a lot of debate on the kind of tint.

Also, the tint does not block my Act Labs PC light gun

I was pricing smoked plexi at Lowes recently and I was wondering if it would be cheaper to use glass and the window tint used in cars which they sell at Wal-Mart?  Also wondering how that would affect the IR in the remotes?

I'm just bringing it up now in case someone has already investigated this.

I wanted to use my cab's original bezel and not do anything permanent, so I used black 35% auto tint. It was simple, and the cabinet looks much better since it has a black theme anyway.  Tint is still a bit lighter than I expected, I might re-do it with 20% (lower # is darker).

I'm struggling with the tinted plexiglass solution.

After reading a lot of posts, I figured that it was the best way to go.  BUT...I cannot adjust my computer monitor to make it look good thru the tinted glass.  No matter what I do to the Brightness and Contrast, it just looks sub-par.

ANY IDEAS??

For those who like it, what are your Brightness and Contrast set at??

AHHHH you might have to resort to tweaking your graphics card GAMMA settings. See the thing about Arcade monitors (and TV's?) is you can pump up the brightness so it's brighter than it should be, and then through a tinted glass it looks normal.

PC monitors though... I think alot of them have a whiteness limit that you CAN'T push further. Try going into your display adapter's advanced settings (assuming you are using Windows).

Ray.....YES I am using Windows 98SE.

Right-click on your desktop.

Select Properties

Select the Settings tab

Click the Advanced button

Now as for the next step, that is different for different computers. It depends on what graphics card you have installed, whether or not you have installed the proper drivers for it (or if you are running the default generic Windows driver) and also what version of those drivers.

But basically at this point there should be an option in there for color management, gamma, display, or similar options that affect the display.

Also, look for a "color temperature"setting on your monitor.  A higher color temperature may help.
