I asked the very same question months ago. Currently it is not supported in Mamewah.

I'm thinking it might be possible using either an external menu generator system OR by running 2 instances of Mamewah.

Your Cab starts up and calls the menu "first instance of Mamewah". This will have your custom layout.

Each emulator in your list would call a 2nd instance of Mamewah with the appropriate Emulator setup. I'm just unsure if Mamewah likes being run twice. Once you exited this Mamewah session it would revert back to the first instance.

This is a cool idea!  Have it boot up into an emulator list instead of the last emulator and a game list.  Better yet, give the user a choice of which he wants.

And add an "Emulator List" key along with the previous emu/next emu that takes the user back to the menu.

Running 2 or more instances of Mamewah would not work well, especially when moving from back and forth between the emulator list and the game list.

Does anyone know if Kymaera supports this?

Yeah I've tested running 2 instances of mamewah and it's not good. Still you could run a menu program that called Mamewah again rather then reverting to an exiting instance. I "could" actually create a menu using say Autoplay Menu but I'm not sure about variables.....

I'm going to have a look at it.

Allow me to be the first to donate $50 to have this funtionality added to Mamewah or Kymaera. If both developers add this, I will donate $50 to each.  I feel that this feature is really important to simplify the front ends so that anyone can use them with even less training.

This is already in there, look for the shortcut after SELECT_EMULATOR in \ctrlr\default.ini .

Nice of you to offer Katana Man but to implement that properly would take quite a lot of work, and I'm not interested in it enough to do it atm, sorry :(  I think your level based system would be easier for some, but it would kindof feel like a wizard to me...

if i remember correctly kymaera does have the option to have a hierarchy. i think pacmanfan mentioned he added it not long after the first release. I like this approach too for desktop use. 3darcade is setup like that by default because of that. on my cab though i prefer to shoot at galaxians to select different lists but that is a different story ;)

Actually, Kymaera does not currently have this feature. It was something I was looking into, but I have not added it yet.

I can see the point of this option, but frankly don't understnad why it would be so hard to explain to people.  Yes, you want it to be as intuitive as possible, but also... how many people do you have playing your machine?

I'd say MOST people don't have a random person on their machine everyday.  A small instruction card, or a few button labels, or a minute's worth of explanation will do the same thing IMHO.

personally, I don't WANT people to be in my menus.  I think 3000+ games are plenty to play, and if someone WANTS to play a SNES game or the like, I'd have no problem pressing the 4 or 5 buttons needed to make that happen.  That's just me though.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

I use and love Mamewah in my cab. Sure it has some shortcomings in terms of easy configuration but once done it's a breeze to use. My daughter who just turned 3 uses it no problem including holding down Player 1 and then pressing Player 2 to exit a game and select another.

The biggest problem with her is that she always wants to play it when I do  LOL!
