Slot machine handle on Mame cab.
« on: December 30, 2004, 07:48:34 am »
I was considering putting one of those slot machine handles on the side of my cab and hook it up to my Ipac for slot machine games. (The old fashion type where you would pull on the handle which made the noisy reels spin around.)

I did some searches trying to find out exactly how they mount and the different types that are available, but I just lost 20 minutes of my life on google with no results.

Personally I am not big on slot machines or the games that simulate them, but old Grandma would have a ball when she visits.

I am conscious that such an addition would distract from the arcade appearance so at this stage I am just putting the idea out there for opinions. My initial thought was that this idea sucked hard, but then the idea started sounding better.......

Any thoughts?

Real slot machine players NEVER use the handle, they always use the buttons on the control panel. Take it from someone who works next store to a casino. Handles are going the way of the dinosaur. Japanese slots haven't had them in years, and american slots will soon follow suit.

Yeah I know they haven't got handles anymore, just fishing for ideas on possibly reproducing something that feels like the old type that worked the biceps.

Oh, then get a real handle off any machine made since about 1990, all of them are essentially a switch.

What a fantastic idea. Yeah my wife has in-laws over in the guest room all the time. What a perfect excuse to put another machine in the house.

Your easiest option might be to get an arm kit for a pachislo (Japanese slot) machine. Might not be the cheapest way to go, but it should work just fine. You can find one here:

http://www.slotsdirect.com/armkits.html

As far as the looks are concerned, I don't see why the arm couldn't be mounted to a plate for easy removal, with a blank plate in place to cover the hole when it is not attached.
