You will need one Metal slug 3 game cartridge, these sell for between $20 and $100 so make sure you shop around. Make sure you buy and ARCADE cartridge, not a home cartridge
You will also need a neogeo (MVS) motherboard. These come in 1,2,4 and 6 slot varities. You can put one game in a 1-slot, 2 games in a 2-slot, 4 games in a 4 slot etc etc. The 2, 4 and 6 slot motherboards have an extra header for the "game swap" button. The 4 and 6 slot boards are reasonably rare now and (in my oppinion) stupidly expensive. One and 2 slot motherboards should be pretty cheap, shop around.
In theory you should be able to use any cart with any MVS motherboard. WHat you CAN'T do is use home carts in an arcade motherboard.
As for putting the motherboard + cart into your cabinet, this is where things get a bit tricky and depends on if your MK machine is a conversdion of a dedicated. Mortal kombat is a Jamma+ game, it uses the standard standard 3 buttons per player with an extra two buttons per player. Noe-geo is also a jamma+ standard but uses a different wiring harness for the extra button and the "game swap" button (if fitted).
You should be able to get the jamma standard 3 buttons working without too much fuss and can wire up the others "by hand" if required. Metal slug is only a three button game so you might be able to get away without them.
