williams/ midway cabinets
« on: December 26, 2004, 10:42:37 pm »
Im looking for a mortal kombat cabinet to mame and I keep reading that they are williams or midway cabinets. Is this the same cabinet? Does anyone know who the actual cabinet manufacturer for midway is and if it would be possible to buy direct from them.

They stopped making those cabinets years ago.

Is there a reason you are really stuck on that particular cabinet style?

Im just stuck on that style of cabinet. Im going to have this in my family room and its probably the only cabinet I will ever have so I would like to get exactly what I want. I just see things I dont really like on every other cabinet I see. I also really like that it looks like I could unhook the control panel and hook up a 4 player panel to it like the nba jam or nfl blitz.

Oh, well most of the large cabinets can do that. Pretty much every cabinet with a separate control panel box can swap them.

There is a superauctions in Belleville next month. I'd give a good chance that there will be a copy of that cabinet there, but you might be paying a high price if it has a good game in it.

what would be a high price? Id like to stay under $500 and hopefully get a working game w/ 25" monitor.

You can ALWAYS buy a nice working 25" game under $500. But you want a specific cabinet style, which means that you are limited to bidding on the one of two copies of THAT cabinet that might be at the auction. And they might go way higher than that if they have a late model Golden Tee board in them or something.

If you just go to the auction with your $500 with the goal of buying a NICE 25" cabinet then you will certainly be successful. Your chance of success is far lower if you NEED a specific cabinet type.

When I say I want a mortal kombat style cabinet this is the same style cabinet used in most of the midway games correct? like all the mortal kombat series, nfl blitz, killer instinct, nba jam and so on. They all just have different control panels. I just wanted to make sure all of these are the same cabinet.

No, those cabinets are not all the same, they are simply all SIMILAR cabinets.

The MK cab is nicer looking than later midway cabs.
