Tell me if that looks familiar? I'd say it's LuSid's. I think more replicas of that cabinet have been built than any other. Hopefully room is being made for Mark II.

Sad.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, he's building custom cabinets. Oops. hehe

Hey! The more I look at it the more I see! Isn't that Scott's Unicade 3D model on his home page? What's going on?! He rippin off the BYOACers? Very fishy.

The cabs are likely built to order, so I'd guess they're borrowing pics until they have some cab's built.  I've seen that they've had MAME cabs on eBay for a while now, but maybe no takers yet.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think it's really cheesy to "borrow" pics.

Absolutely!  I certainly wasn't defending their actions, just speculating on what was the likely explanation.

HAH ! ! !

I scared the guy by getting him on AIM..I told him I was lucid and asked him "WHAT THE HELL WAS CABINET DOIN DOWN THERE?"

The guy got scared and told me that his cabinet came out exactly like lucid's cab and he doesn't have a camera to take real picture...Someone here could stop the guy by tellin him that you are lucid and you want the picture out of there or you SUE his sorry --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules--....now thats a good idea people ;).

Some people are so dumb and stupid,People are bidding without even seeing the real pictures...HOW LAME IS THAT >:(

Just a thought, Isn't it up to Lucid to decide if he has a problem and isn't it just as, if not more, rude to claim to be him without his permission? For all you knew he may have been contacted and given permission to use his image.

Agreed, and in some cases, it's okay to rip off images.  Case in point is my FAQ and web page.  http://www.fraggersxtreme.com/arcadepanels/faq.htm.

I don't have a digital cam.  I'll prolly buy one for the construction phase, but. . .  The most obvious lift is the yoke handle pic from a thread on here, which I think lifted it from Bob Roberts site.  If you look hard a my links, you'll also find SNK joystick pics lifted from Druin, Gravis Destroyer and Microsoft Dual Strike pics lifted from the web, etc.  In the case of the yoke handles and SNK's, I don't plan to use these for my project, so I wasn't about to buy them to take a picture for the site.

OTOH, my panels are similar to an OzStick Super Single with a different button layout.  I originally planned to download his pics and shift the buttons around (tried this even) and it looked awful, so I ended up using line art until I have the actual panels available.

Just my 2 cents.

My feeling on it is if you aren't willing to invest in a camera to take pictures of something you made then you are trying to pull something over on someone.  I mean come on it takes like 300+ bucks minumum to make a cab and yet you can't spend an extra 30 for a cheap throw away camera?

I never buy anything on ebay that doesn't have a pic of the actual product.

I'm curious of how many people who love classic arcades enought would want to buy one instead of making one.

building my cabinet has been great!  I was out of the emulation world for about a year (mainly because of the !@# up politics on some sites).  Anyway, I decided to build my own controller... then I redid it... then by then my wife knew I was about to start really spending some cash!

but she wasn't ready for the sure time sync of writing a frontend... and rewriting it every 6 months....

Even thought it might end up costing about the same or less buying one.  And for me it would DEFINATELY look better if I bought one... I wouldn't have got nearly as much out of it.

frankly.... I have no pblm if you borrow some other people's pics... but in this case... the pic is what he/she is selling....

now... is he going to build 1 EXACTLY like the pic ??... if not, then I would consider him cheating other people's $$...
(because you're showing whoever buying a picture which is NOT what it really looks like....)

I hadn't thought of that... what a neat gift idea!  Especially if you could get your hands on an old GameBoy, take it apart, and mount it in the cabinet...

I didn't take him as trying to come across as lucid.  It's rude to use others images... but look at his website... missing links and missing images (from other sites I'm assuming).

But the ebay auction metions that he is building it from scratch for you.  It couldn't be clearer and anyone whos bidding on it should realize that.  But the only trouble I see is that he isn't showing his own work (or might now).  He has some images on his own website.  They could be his own...

I didn't take it as him ripping anyone else off at all...

First off I agree with you in that the exerience of building a cab is much more valuable than the end result.  Mine turned out ok... nothing spectacular but I'm perfectly satisfied with it.  It's nice to use somehting that you built out of nothing.  Quite a power trip.    I think that those who convert/buy are really missing out.  Of course they don't see it that way because they haven't done it yet. It's a viscious circle. :)

But regarding the pictures I have to disagree.  It's extremely misleading, intentional or not to use false pics for a product.  Even if he uses luscid's plans it probably won't turn out exactly like his. It reminds me of those things you sent away for in the back of comic books, they were never as pictured.  That's why I consider anything without a real, color photo of the actual product a shady deal, even if it isn't meant to be.

Also if someone can get their webpage together then they probably aren't very professional anyway.  The reason 75% of new businesses fail is because they don't stick to the basics.

Make a good product.
Make a product someone wants.
Figure out who that someone is and market the h@ll out of it.
After you figure out your target market you shove the product down their throats, which as much information and detail as possible.  This includes mockups, and truthful advertising.
All of this takes into account that it isnt' a disposable product and is more on the investment end.

Some marketing advice to all you young business persons out there free of charge. ;)

(Look maw I learnd me somefin' at dat dare fancy college type school.)

I agree regarding using your own pics, I Never steal pics for my auctions and on my own web site I either use vendor/Manufacturer provided images or take my own (and I've had to take hundreds). I just feel that claiming to be someone your are not, without that persons permission, for any reason is as bad, or worse, than taking images.

I was under the impression that is what happened from the quote "I told him I was lucid and asked him "WHAT THE HELL WAS CABINET DOIN DOWN THERE?"

Personally if anyone was impersonating me I'd have fits, in the end its up to Lucid and none of us to decide if there should be any retribution regarding the possible improper use of his intellectual property, I suggest the proper action if you felt the need to intervene (Which in this case is reasonable) would be to either contact the seller asking about the images OR to contact Lucid and inform him of the breach.

I Never steal pics for my auctions

Well as far as the pictures go, it will greatly depend on what it is a picture of. For example, if I scan a dvd cover and use it on my auction, I can in no way shape or form get upset if other seller takes that picture to use for their auction also since the item pictured is copywrighted by the DVD studio. And there are many people out there who get upset thinking they own those pictures just because they scanned them. I would say there are many exceptions though. If an arcade site is scannning hi res pics for others to use on their cabs, they have the right to get pissed if they see those pics ending up as mouse pads on EBay since they can get into legal trouble from it. And of course linking to someone elses pics and eating their bandwidth is a no no even if they don't own the copywright.

In this case however the item pictured is owned and created by the person who took the photo. So that seller should not have used the picture without permission if that were the case.

Actually I will ahve to disagree on that one.  Now in a real store (or online store for that matter)  in which you buy new products then it's ok to share images.  As a matter of fact usually the manufacturer sends a press kit with photos to aid in making ads.

But when you are buying used merchandise it's important show pictures of the actual item.  If i ran across a dvd for sale on ebay and all they showed was a scan of the dvd cover I wouldn't buy it.  Why?  Well they might just be selling that image, or the dvd box.  It has happened before.  Also that dvd might be scratched to hell and that's why they are selling it.  Even when it's simple media I want pics of everything.  Even the back of a cd. :)

If all ebay sellers were reputable then I wouldn't have to be so paranoid, but unfortunately they all aren't.
