Switch for changing res mode. Is it possible?
« on: December 23, 2004, 12:17:02 pm »
I usually change res mode with my ArcadeVGA, from 321x240 (confort for my eyes) to 800x600 (more usable for desktop browsing). I have an icon on my taskbar and a key combination so as to quicky alternate: ctrl+alt+1 for low res, and ctrl+alt+2 for high res. The avga config program let you do this. My idea is to implement a switch in my control panel so as to do this. Push it to the left and you have 321x240. Right and screen goes to 800x600. Now, how to do this? I'm using a PSX pad hack for my panel, if that's of any importance for the matter. I've thought of another alternative: tonight I'll try with joytokey. Maybe defining a button as alt, other as ctrl and other as 1, and 2. I could switch res modes from my CP using  these combinations of buttons. However, the idea of the swich on the panel would be fantastic! Moreover I don't like the idea of having joytokey always loaded, and I don't know really if control and alt can be defined as emulated keys.

I can't address your question about the switch but I was curious why you don't run the 640x288 non-interlaced mode instead of 321x240.

I use MameWah as my front end and I run 640x288.  At this resolution, it is actually possible to browse the web to some extent.

To configure windows however, requires at least 640x480 interlaced because the dialogs don't fit on the screen.
