Anyone ever tried Mahjong-Controls?
« on: October 06, 2002, 10:43:39 am »
Searched KLOV through it, but couldn't find a controlpanel-image of the bigger machines. (only those featuring A-H and fewer extra-buttons)

As far as I found out, it seems like I would need

A-M
12 special keys
1 or 2 start-buttons? Are there twoplayer-Mahjongs in MAME?
2 creditslots

So far 29-30 inputs - damn, should I get an Ipac4 instead of the normal Ipaq I already got, or will there some more problems occure? (leaving behind that I can't read a single word japanese :) )

Beleive it or not most of the newer mahjong cabinets use a traditional keyboard.  At least from the pics I have seen.  Now some of the older one's did have dedicated buttons, but I'm guessing that they eventually gave up as more buttons were added.

The question is do you really like mahjong that much?  Also a keyboard hack would probably do best for them as you don't have to press a lot of buttons at once.

That would makes things easier - if you find any pictures of a cab that kind please let me now/mail me! :)

Both me and my girlfriend like playing Mahjong much (haven't tried these arcade-versions, though, as they follow other rules and I guess I've to figure this out first), for my part of course I like the graphics of some of the games, too ;)

A keyboard-like design would be not bad as this would be a panel that supports all you might ever need, so the idea isn't that bad. Maybe I should look after a industrial keyboard that I could build in a controlpanel - just have to see before how they make this in the real cabs.

Yeah I have a fairly good image bank going from all of the models I've been making.... If you can give me the names of some of these cabs I'll try to look them up for you.  There isn't much to see though... the one's I saw literally had a ps2 keyboard.  They simply got a minimal one (without numberpad and arrow keys)  And put some kind of overlay over the function keys and renamed them to reach pon, ect...

I'll do my best to find ya  pic

Thanx, Howard!
Got no special cabinet name - somehow all this Mahjong games are called Mahjong..., e.g. Mahjong Gakuensai, ...

Best help would be to find a pic of a cab with the simple keyboard - I found at least a controlpanel like this (Mahjong Chinese):

Can't look worser with a real keyboard  ;)

mind if I swipe that image?  I wanted to make a default mahjong cab but it was very hard for me to find any pics of the control panel head on. :)
