That's really an original design. You're probably the only one that's gone through the trouble, so was it worth it? Now all you need is the plunger.

Do you like playing pinball?

If the answer is yes, then they are worth it.

If the answer is no, then they are worth it (to me, so send me your address and I'll be up nort' der hey in a bit to pick up my new cab  ;) )

My cab will have them, but on the sides of the cab, not recessed in a hole like yours.

What does that mean??

Let me put it another way then.. directly answering your question: Are they worth it? No, not with the complicated hole cutting and parts required to achieve the solution you came up with.

But if all you do is stick a button on each side of a control panel, then yes, I think they are worth it.

The second part of your answer is unrelated to the question posed.  Notice that the question is about "Recessed" buttons, not buttons stuck on the side.

FWIW, if that hole is a complicated cut for someone, they're gonna have FAR more problems with the rest of their cab, and MAY not even GET to the part where they have to make a decision about cutting that "complicated" hole.

That hole is a simple jigsaw or router cut following an outline.  5 minutes at MOST, less than a minute in actuality, I'd guess.

The extra parts seem to be ... umm..... wood.  Now, while you may not have -wood- lying around to do this, you most certainly will when building a cab.  Kinda hard to build a cab WITHOUT wood.

Mebbe I just like it too much, but I don't even enjoy playing pinball and I think that's a cool feature.

My 2 pesos.

I think the recessed buttons are an awesome idea, but I think it'd be very hard to implement in any other cab designs besides your own.  Your cab is so different, and it just seems to work well with it IMHO.  Putting that kind of recess in say a converted cab, or a scratch-built one that looks a bit more "standard arcade machine" for lack of a better term probably wouldn't be worth it though.

If I had the means though, I'd prolly do it. :)
first off your and idiot

Fortunately the hole snugly holds my Guiness

You're not drinking your Guinness out of a CAN are you? It's my nightly dilemma, can't go to the pub every night (cause that would make me an alcoholic) but must have sweet sweet Guinness. Go without? Or drink from a can - a sad imitation of the "Guinness experience"?

Normally the can wins out - the rest of the time I go to the damn pub anyway.

I say make it slightly bigger and make it so you can put your beer IN the whole.... Dual use..

Then make a plastic bottom.... And put a spunge above it that is cut to the right size.

Now you don't have to worry about spills... AND you get a cool beer holder all in one shot... Best of all worlds.
