Coffee table cab ideas
« on: December 14, 2004, 04:04:14 pm »
Has anyone ever designed a coffee table style cabinet.  A very low profile design that could be used for such.  I would hate to not be able to see my TV from the couch because my cab was in the way.   I looked through all of the examples and links but didnt see anything like that.
I had spare parts lying around and was just trying to think of something.

Sounds like something similar to a Taito cocktail only with shorter legs would probably fit the bill in this case.

A friend of mine here in Atlanta has built such a thing. Check it out at www.ericvass.com . I am sure you can e-mail him with any questions that you might have.

I think the controls would be the hard part..  You don't want a joystick on your coffee table when your not using it...

but I just through of an idea... I'm popping out windows paint to try to describe it... might work

Ok, here is the idea.  The control panel would be on a pivit... And it would swing up.  But there would be a sliding part that will over that area when down

And you would move the front handle over (to the right) to unlock the control panel.. It swings down.. And then your control panel can swing back / down.  Then you pull the handle to the left to lock in the table part.

The trick would have to be the dowels that hold in the control panel and the sliding panel.

This is the dowel from the right table / slider pushing the dowel in the control panel to create a down on the left and the right in one shot.

And opps... the image should have had the front handle on the left... (its attached to the slider, not the control panel... and this image has the control panel up.

Wow.  Thats a neat looking coffee table.  And the flat monitor was a great idea.  Hrmmmm.  Thanks guys you got the wheels a turnin now.  Maybe an old laptop would work ok.  I dunno.
