4 Player controls question
« on: December 14, 2004, 11:46:44 am »
Hope you can all help with some advice on a 4 player CP.  You see Im not much for playing fighting games so I dont know what the usual controls are.  Im really only building a 4 player to accomodate friends and family who like them and because I have this huge cabinet with a control panel that you could land small aircraft on.

My original plan was 4 joystics 6 buttons each, but the more I look at other layouts it seems at most its usually 6 buttons for P1 and P2 and just 4 for P3/P4   I also see that the IPAC4 doesnt even have default mappings above button 4 for P3/P4 leading me to belive there is no need for 6 buttons on these players.

Ive already got the buttons, so its not so much a cost issue as just not wanting to add in buttons that will never see use.

So I guess the basic question is are there any 4 player games that need more than 4 buttons per player?

What you said is correct.  You only need 4 buttons for players 3+4.  There are only a few four player games that actually use all 4 buttons, (the two capcom dungeon and dragons beat em ups are the only ones I know of).

Thanks!  Id have hated to bother installing and wiring buttons that will never see use.  I can throw the spares into the parts bin for the next project (dont tell my wife) :)
