Wico joys
« on: December 14, 2004, 10:51:53 am »
Hi

I've gathered that Wico joys are the best for games needing 4-way joysticks.  I checked wicothesource.com and found their joysticks, but searching the boards, it looks like the "good" Wico 4-way joys can be found at Ebay.  What's the difference between what Wico sells and what can be found on Ebay (besides price)?

Thanks.

I think some of the "Wico style" sticks that you see on fleabay are actually cheap asian knockoffs. I don't know how to tell the difference, myself. I'm sure someone who does will chime in shortly.

Wico doesn't sell leaf switch joysticks anymore. So for the most part wico are only available as NOS or used. You must be careful because it doesn't take much to end up with the asian knock offs. To tell the difference the originals have clip in leaf switches while the cheap ones screw in. Only other problem you may run into is the quality of the joystick, used ones may have damaged or deteriorated grommets that make them almost unuseable.

There's an ebay user named Nicade that has REAL 4-way wicos for sale.
They are $24.99 at his ebay store on a buy-it-now, IIRC.
He's a great seller, and a bunch of people here highly recommend him, including myself.

That's who I was referring to.  His Wico's are $24.99 and the ones Wico sells are like $10.  I just wanted to find out what the difference is (leaf switches).

Thanks to those for helping out.

Wico doesn't sell leafswitch sticks anymore.

You can pick up singles from Nicade for $9.99, if nobody else bids on them against you.
He usually keeps one on auction, and the balance on buy-it-now.

You can also pick up NOS Wicos from other sellers, if you watch for the ones that show the Wico instruction sheet, and say "Wico", not "Wico-style", in the text.

I just picked up THREE Wico 8-ways (one red, and two blue) in an auction a couple weeks ago, for $10 + shipping.
That auction lasted about 6 minutes, IIRC.
He had a ridiculously low buy it now on it, so I snapped them up for some upcoming projects.

You should sell those in the Buy/sell forum and make a little profit.

I'll take one.  =)

Then I'd have to RE-buy them when I get to the projects I bought them for.

Wico doesn't even make their own joysticks anymore. If you buy a new stick from Wico then you're buying a stick made by Suzo.
