Mounting Glass over Bezel
« on: December 09, 2004, 11:18:07 pm »
Hey guys-
Been looking through everyone's cab pics- but one thing I dont see is how you guys have mounted the glass/plexi over the bezel?  I don't see any mounting blocks or whatnot on the outside- what am I missing?
thanks
D

Well I can only speak for my cab but it came with a metal bracket (clip)that screws into cabinet and keeps the glass from sliding out.

Depending on your cabinet, you may just be able to let it rest against the bezel and let the weight of the glass hold it in place.

Another approach some have taken for custom built cabs is to route a slot at the top which is usually the speaker shelf under the marquee and a similar slot in the bottom ledge.

You make the slot slightly deeper in the top and cut the glass or plexi height in such a way so that when fitting into place you can lift it up into the top slot then set it in place in the lower slot.

I didn't have the forethought when constructing mine to plan for this need so was going to just add a small frame around it or a piece at the top and bottom. However, my cab doesn't move around so I once I set it in place, I never added anything to hold it there, it's own weight and tight fit does that just fine.

precisely what I'm planning to do.  The angle and weight of the glass should be such, that no 'retaining' method is required to secure the bezel in place.

I suppose it all depends on how 'agressively' you play.  ;)

the angle on my cab is such that i only have a clip on the bottom and rubber on teh 4 corners for padding and no slip action

On my cab, which is originally a Super Contra cab, the class slides behind the speaker panel and at the bottom is wedged in place by the control panel.
