Opti-Pac and Ipac conflicts

When I was wiring my panel I had originally connected mouse buttons one and two to player 1 button 4 and player 2 button four (I wire to each board for each button) but this did not work. I'm guessing that this is not possible to do as XP gets confused over whats been pressed.

I don't have a problem with this but just curious as to whether anyone else had tried it and got a similar result.
