starting cabinet with keyboard/controller?
« on: December 05, 2004, 11:58:42 am »
Hi,

This may be somewhat of a windows question, but I was wondering how people set up their cabinets to turn on with a keystroke from one of the buttons on their controller.  I would like to cover the computer with a coin door and wouldn't want to open it up every time.  Is there a way in windows to say "turn computer on when user pressed the x key?"  My keyboard that came with my computer does not have a "startup" key.

Thanks,

Al

If you have  a motherboard with a 'power on keyboard' setting in the bios and you are using a key encoder like an I-pac you can. I haven't tried this myself but it should work. Any input guys??

I you don't mind having an extra cp button specifically for this purpose, you could just wire a button to act as the power button.  If you are using Windows XP you may want to turn off the "auto" shutdown feature.  During a furious gaming spree, you may inadvertently shut your computer down.
