Standard LuSID CP big enough for 4 player?
« on: December 05, 2004, 02:28:07 am »
First, hello to everyone; I've been reading this forum for awhile, but this is my first time posting.

Anyway, I'm in the process of building a cabinet using a very slightly modified version of LuSID's cabinet.  The control panel and its box are the standard size.  I'm done with the construction and I'm just waiting to get the controls for the panel for Xmas.

I'm planning on making the panels swappable, and making my first panel a general-purpose one and second making a Robotron/Smash TV/Total Carnage panel.

My question is: is the control panel (or specifically its box) going to be large enough for a four player dedicated panel with one joystick and four buttons each?  I'm sure I can fit all the controls in there, but could four people comfortably cram in and reach the controls?  I figure someone using LuSID's plans has thought about or attempted this and I'm just curious what your experiences have been.

Im using LuSIDs design on my first cab, and finished wiring the CP today. Ive got two sticks with six buttons each, and in working on a spinner to go in the center. Its a pritty spacious panel, but I dont think it would be wide enough for a 4 player panel. It would do 3 player, you could even angle the controls, following the angled contour that goes along the bottom. Hope this helps you out. BTW, welcomre to the board.

I based my cab on LuSiD's design, and actually narrowed the width a bit to suit my 21" monitor.  I didn't want the monitor looking like a postage stamp in the middle of that great big space! :)

As it is, the 2-player CP is quite large.  I don't see how you couldn't fit 4 players on the original design.

You might be able to get all the "bits" in there, no worrys! But the players would be sholder to sholder. Got to keep ergonomics in mind too.

Notice this is also a bit deeper.   http://people.aapt.net.au/~damiancross/aafb.png With the buttons your wanting, and player comfort in mind - dont thnk it would fit. Make it a bit wider and a bit deeper and it'll be sweet :) hope this helps

I used the standard LuSID design and you can fit a 4 player panel easily.  I was also able to stick a 27" TV in there as well.

My upright is based on a modified Lusid design.  I, too, fit a 27" TV but as GGKoul suggested...for a 4 player panel it would be best to create a wider, modified design as I don't think the standard Lusid CP box design will accomodate that many people side by side.
