OK then. It seems like it might be able to handle the resolution of the game, but support for MAME might be iffy. What about PDA's for example:

That's cool too, but I really think that something like this could be an ideal medium for a pocket sized MAME, as it's fundamentally desgined a little more like an actual handheld game.

This is what you want for a portable mame. There is even a mame version for it I beleive.

I'm more than happy with
E2MAME
on my NGage, my wife also has the 'Lite' version on her Nokia 3650. The recent releases have been rock solid.

I'll never forget when someone at the New Egland get together mentioned some game and then joymonkey pulled out his phone and said I think I have that game on my phone , I never even knew phone mame existed.

Anyone know whats driving that multimedia item? you don't need much of a processor for media (just a fast bus)
I'm waiting for the epia 533 handheld that is coming out. That should play a few thousand perfectly.

Come on, all you need is a PocketPC. Dell sells pretty good ones and at affordable prices.

Come on, I'm aware of the Pocket PC....I just wanna see some other possible viable options with more gamer-ish button layouts.
Yeah, and besides the video camera MAME, m'kay?
Anything about the Tapwave?
