Xgaming's BYO Kit.
« on: December 02, 2004, 02:17:36 am »
Has anyone actually received a BYO kit yet? I ordered mine as early as possible and the next thing you know - I got an email saying that they are out of encoders despite the fact that I had it on preorder.

I bought one of those off ebay a couple of years ago, and I used it in my machine.

I have trouble with it. Lots of trouble. It may be my computer/keyboard, but I don't think so.

1/2 the time it won't recognize the keyboard when the machine boots and I have to click buttons and reset at the bios screen.  I tried setting the Bios different ways, but It's not working well at all.

I bought the ipac for another future machine, I have it in a stand alone control panel, and it works great.

I'd avoid it. One of the other limitations is that they are selling it as they install it. The Diagram is hard to follow and the wires are very short with spade ends. If your CP isn't any bigger than the Xgaming CP you are okay, otherwise you have to extend all kinds of wires to reach.

Craig and the group are really good about standing behind it, but compared to the Ipac, it's no contest.

i would really avoid any X-products, they are a shady company and are known for selling crappy components

Same exact thing happend to me.

I was told they'll be back in late next week.

So far....I've been happy with everything I've ordered from them so personally I have high hopes for the kit.

I have to second the recommendation against X-Arcade gear.  I bought a Solo unit a couple years ago, and brought it back the next day.  For some reason, they found it necessary to use substandard parts rather than the industry-standard, tried-and-true Happ components in their products.  The buttons they use are very hard on the hands (very stiff springs), and have an extremely loud click compared to the Happ buttons. I found it impossible to play more than a couple rounds in fighting games without getting sore wrist and fingers.

Seems to me for a $100 controller, they could have spent a couple extra bucks for good buttons.  Quality is priority #1 when I buy game gear.

Really, I've only bought from X-gaming once and that was about a year or so ago  that I bought my X-arcade dual controller.  The thing was as simple as can be to hook up and get running on my MAME arcade.  I did swap out some of the buttons but only because I wanted to add a splash of color to the arcade cabinet.  I haven't had any problems with it and the buttons definitely don't feel too hard to me...they feel great IMO.  And I love the feel of the joysticks...but maybe I just got a good one or something.

Actually, I am interested in their encoder due to the fact that it through their adapters, I can play on consoles like Dreamcast. I already have all the Happ joystick and buttons for it because I want to make a control panel that'll work for my MAME cab well as most of my consoles.
