19" monitor Cabinet design examples...

hi all,

ive looked at so many example projects, my eyes are bleeding....

im going to use a 19" monitor ($, space, ease, etc...)....

wondering if anyone has seen a nice smaller cabinet, using a 19" monitor - that looks proportional to the size of the cab.

i have a dynamo style cab from the 80's... it was most likely an ikari warriors cab, but it was gutted and changed out so many times...

in any case it's in great condition, sturdy, and not much damage on it... i have a 21 inch monitor in there and it fits with no extra room...

so a 19 inch monitor should look just fine with it

i dont have a digital camera anymore so these pics dont show my dc or lightguns... but they should work for your purposes

and yes... it is an xarcade... it's just easier to shell out 150 and be done with it... plus it made hooked the dc easier...

yeah, looks nice, but you still have a full-size cabinet there...

im talking about a smaller cabinet with a proportional 19" monitor.

I dunno if this will help, but search for cabinet plans based on the old classic Taito cab, and Sega/Gremlin Frogger or Astro Blaster.

From the sounds of it, you are interested in building a cabaret style cabinet.
You might try a search for cabaret, and see what you come up with.

The old cabs are the best for 19".

You just need to select a smaller control panel layout.
(Ie, not 7 buttons per player, trackball, spinner, etc.)

I've got a pacman that I've just stripped all the old laytex paint off of and I'm getting ready to turn it into a mame cab.

The monitor lays down in the cab making it very easy to play.

I'll make it easy on you. Go to klov.com and start looking at cabinets. Basically EVERY game prior to 1986 had a 19" monitor as did many of the made afterwards.

Also, be sure and check out minwah's cab, which is worth looking at.

Good 19" cabinets are Defender, Pac-Man, System One (like Minwahs), Frogger, Zaxxon, Gorf. Heck there are a million of them.

Really though, check out the system one cabinets, one of the larger control panels I have seen on 19" cabs.

A 19" computer monitor is often only 17" viewable, I personally would get a "scan converter" off Ebay (VGA to TV) or a GeForce card with TV out and a large television.

I get all dissapointed when I see arcade cabinets with a huge control panel or a tiny little computer monitor (or both).

I think this is a result of the high price of large computer monitors and the high price and complexity of arcade monitors.

I personally feel a large TV is the ticket, inexpensive, simple, and in keeping with the resolutions of the original arcade monitors.

p.s. although a mini 4' tall cabinet would work well with a 17" viewable monitor, see www.minimame.com. On the topic of saving space, money and time : those mini cabs only require a single 4'X8' sheet of material and go up in one evening.

I've just bought a 19 inch monitor for my dynamo cab, I just got it from an offer at good price. but what the heck. When I get some more cash permission from my wife i'll buy a 25" TV... meanwhile It'll look kinda ugly
