Avatars - Why the size limit?
« on: November 30, 2004, 03:31:03 pm »
Something about this message forum software confuses me... There are some large sized avatars (like all those Mega-man ones) built in, but when it comes to uploading my own, or even just linking to my own hosted on my server, the software doesn't like anything that isn't 65x65. WHY? I have some cool GIF anims I'd like to use but which are just slightly over 65x65... What can I do? Shrinking them makes them look crappy.

I think 80x80 is a better size limit myself.

You have to have a limit though, otherwise you have people with 640x480 avatars, or even worse.

Some guy on the klov board had a 2 meg avatar for a day or two. Gigantic bitmap that the board was sizing down via the html size tag.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I prefer 100x100 or 80x80, but I think the limit should at least be as big as any of the built in Avatars.

Can Saint set this size limit? 80x80 WOULD be nice. Or 100x100.

80x80 is now set. I like that number better. It is enforced for current avatars, and any new ones uploaded.

Arggh... I just made an animation that's 100 x 100.  Back to the drawing board.
