NE1 Used an adjustable hole saw?
« on: September 28, 2002, 08:40:47 am »
I was in Lowe’s yesterday, and they sell a hole saw that adjusts from 1-1/8” to 2-1/2 inches for around $10.  Basically 3 blades 120 degrees apart and you turn a camlock to set the diameter.

Anyone know how well they work.  Might be the only holesaw I have to buy if it’s any good.

I contemplated the same thing tiger Heli... but I opted to just buy a fixed size...  (what other sizes do you think you'll need than 1 1/8" ?)

I was worried that it wouldn't be as sturdy/sharp/stay as sharp as  a fixed width one...

I also opted for the fix width because the adjustable size ones can only "spin" in one direction... therefore it might put a crimp in my pan to cut lexan by running the drill in reverse to melt it..

But other than those concerns... I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Maybe someone else has actually used one and can give a more qualified answer.

They suck.  Stay away.  They break easily, and arnt perfectly alligned so mess up the hole anyway.

Get a 'real' heavy duty holesaw, and or spade bits.

The SW yoke will need a 2-inch.  The 2-1/4 trackball enclosure will require some size, but I don't know what as of yet.
