cocktail glass top, clips problem
« on: November 28, 2004, 11:34:30 am »
Hi all. Trying to finish up my cocktail cabinet. I have a problem. I have placed the glass top on, and the problem is, the glass clips really do not adequately secure it. The clips really just overlap the glass by a small margin - the clips are really too short. The T-molding is really getting in the way. If the T-molding didn't exist, they would work just fine. See pict:

questions are: do better (longer tipped) clips exist?  Any other ideas?  Much appreciate any input you guys may have. Thank you.

Actually that looks about right to me.  The top may be cut just slightly to big for the glass but it still looks fine.  Can you remove the glass with the clips installed?  If not then you are fine.

Yes I think the top is cut just slightly to big for the glass. And with a small amount of effort, yes the glass can be wiggled away from the cabinet entirely. This is really bugging me.

Does anyone make glass clips which extend further?

well, i know the ones on the new ms pac man galag reunion cocktails are different but I don't know if the lip is any bigger.  You should just have a metal shop fabricate them.  I believe there is a member here that does metal work.
Or get some appropriate size aluminum channel:

and just cut 8 small pieces.

Hi whammoed, thanks for the ideas... I am still contemplating what I'm going to do. I'm even thinking about getting a new slightly bigger glass top made  :-\

Would it really make sense to get a new glass cut versus just sanding or planing down the edges of the wood top??

<<or what about taking off the t-molding and planing/routing the top just a smidgen smaller? >>

sounds like a good idea. I ordered this kit from arcadedepot. The T-molding is glued in I think on the top. Is it hard to pry it out without damaging it?

Hey guys - well I think I have fixed the issue:

the glass clips are angled at 90 degrees. Well with some care, I was able to bend the clips to a smaller angle, so now the clips reach further onto the glass surface and they are now able to secure the glass top....

whew.... thanks guys for the great replies though - you guys rock seriously!

How about posting some pics of your cab.  I like the Arcade Depot cabs.  Decisions, decisons!
Did you go with oak or birch?  What color did you stain it.

Thanks,

Thanks for the links!  I like the cab alot.  That looks like the oak laminate but what stain color is that?
