Program to edit mp3 tag?
« on: November 27, 2004, 02:20:08 pm »
Hi,
I have about 2000 songs I need to have edited, so Im looking for a program to edit a lot of mp3 tags at the same time.

Any tips on where to find one?

Thanx

Another option is to use iTunes to put the tags in, and use winamp to copy the information from one ID3 version to another, although the second would take a while with 2000 songs, I suppose

This is a joke right?  It's probably more efficient to do it manually with a hex editor.  ;)

I've downloaded and am trying 'MP3-Tag Studio 3', and am pretty happy with it.  I am concerned , though, because it's banner ad supported.

I'm adding ID3V2 tags to all of my self-made mp3's to get the best label info to show up in WinCAB.   Basically, I"m copying the ID3V1 and adding the letters back that V1 tags chop off (30 character limit in the V1 tags for most fields).  Then I'm changing the name of the .mp3 file itself to match the full name with a track number in front of the name, since all my files are from albums that I own.

I tried using WinAMP's built-in tag editor, which does have a 'copy from ID3V1' function, and that seemed to work.   The longer names were showing up in WinCAB.  But when I went back into WinAMP to make a slight change again there was NO INFO in the ID3V1 or ID3V2.  Using MP3-Tag Studio 3 is working and both tags then show up in WinAMP's editor.   Bizzare.

I use Dr. Tag Plus!

http://www.asterius-mediaworks.com/en/description_drtag+.htm

It would be the perfect program if it had a database lookup tagging feature and album cover downloader.

Just checking out Tag and Rename and it appears it has a few features that Dr. Tag lacks, downloading now.  ;D

Anyone know a program that will get rid of wierd characters in mp3 file tags, or rename files/directories based on id3 tags, but correct illegal chars while doing so.  Someway, commas, quotes and other illegal things have crept into my id3 tags, and now I can't easily use a program like media monkey to organize my files by artist/album/title or whatever cause 10% of the album names seem to contain illegal chars.

I use tagscanner for mp3 tag editing and playlist printing etc.  It gets the job done for me -  and it's freeware!
