An interesting project...  I don't know if I'd be happy with having a big ugly, noisy (I remember those overheads as being fairly loud) projector sitting around, though.

Might be fun to build for giggles (since I've got a spare 15" LCD monitor already), but probably not as something for real world use.

There are sites full of people building their own projectors. There are shops selling the specialised components for a good projector too. Some look pretty nice even.

There's a down side to having a TV that big.  I just gave my brother my 6 foot TV.  It was a Sony something from 1982 with the red/blue/green lenses.  It took up waaaay to much room in the basement.  His basement has a better layout and it will work out well for him.

I might build something like that though.  It would be more "portable" and could be "put away".

The bulbs are usually model specific. There's no generic type as far as I know, but i do know the price for a replacement bulb will hover around the $200US mark, if your projector is something relatively cheap.

Best thing is to find the projector manufacturer on the web, find the part number for the bulb, google it and you should find places that sell them.

Hope that helps.
Now in a tasty new flavour.
