Here's what happens in Netscape (which prompts for cookies).

That's your problem right there... this board is not netscape compliant... use ie.  :)

Not the problem, the same things happen in IE and Opera too, it's just that Netscape prompts for cookies and the others don't.

Here's something odd:  I tried deleting the cookies.txt file.  Came back to the board, allowed the cookies to be set, opened up the cookies.txt file and ALL the cookies were back (even for sites I hadn't visited since I deleted the file.  Weird.

Dink:
What version of Netscape?  Do you have two copies of Netscape installed? IE: deleting the wrong cookies.txt?

On the advanced tab, select "Accept all cookies" and uncheck "Warn me before accepting cookies".

If your browser is picking up cookies fom sites you haven't visited you have some other, bigger problems.

I think it's 4.75.  (Although I think I had 6 installed and removed it.)  It isn't a matter of deleting the wrong cookies.txt, though, because I deleted the file and then looked at the file that appeared in the same directory as the old file used to be in.

Yeah, I have "Accept all" selected, and deselecting "Warn Me . . " basically gives Netscape the same permissions I have on Opera and IE, and they don't work either  :(

I meant sites I haven't visited that session.  Basically, I was on my home page, deleted the cookies file, went here, told it to accept cookies (so I've been to two sites), opened the cookies file and there are cookies from some thirty different sites.  They weren't unfamiliar sites, but they weren't sites I had been to since deleting the cookies.txt file.  Seems weird to me!

oy vey.. you're making my head swim...

Do you have the capability to create different profiles in your version of netscape (i.e. do you have installed the communicator suite, or just netscape?)

IF you have the one (communicator) where you can create a new profile... do that.  Create a new profile.  That profile will look like a virgin install as far as other sites/cookies/etc are concerned.

I may be wrong... but I'm confused about this deleting of the cookies.txt file... isn't there a cookies folder with all the different cookie files? I don't believe it's just one file (or it means/does something else).

hold on.. I'm gonna try and experiment with 4.77 nutscrape...

EDIT: doh.. ok it's just one file with netscape... i was wrong... here's my cookie

--- Code: ---www.arcadecontrols.org   FALSE   /   FALSE   1063220350   BYOAC_YaBBSE140usernamev14   rampy

www.arcadecontrols.org   FALSE   /   FALSE   1063220350   BYOAC_YaBBSE140passwordv14   ys4g69z77G.jI

www.arcadecontrols.org   FALSE   /   FALSE   1063220350   expiretime   1063216765

--- End code ---

What does yours look like?

rampy:
I'm guessing you're missing that 3rd cookie with the expiration date on it... I'd bet dollars to donuts that theirs a statement in
YABBSE that checks the cookie/SESSION_VARS and sees if it's still valid... in your case it looks like it gets expiration date of null or the like
and promptly logs you out...

Any chance of upgrading to a newer version of netscape in the 4.X hiearchy?  Have you tried that new pheonix "slim" version of Mozilla, bTW?

EDIT Doh.. just read your other thread that says it happens in IE and mozilla on that machine too... I'm puzzled.... do you have some weird software firewall on the 98 machine?

EDIT2: For giggles I deleted the 3rd line in my cookies.txt and close browser and came back in and it made me guest if that helps narrow down the symptoms (cause still unknown)  Does changing the length of the session length in minutes help?  I'm surprised that besides the cookie problem... theres a session issue too, as even if you deleted your cookie you should still stay logged in regardless for and hour or until you close your browser (which ever happens first)
