MAME won't see my USB controller.
« on: November 10, 2004, 11:23:37 pm »
I'm using a PS2(platstation2) to USB adapter for my joysticks, and I can't get mame to see them. They are seen by windows and everything, how can I set up the controls so that MAMEWAH and MAME will see them? I try pressing the button in the mame button config, but it won't register.

(and if I could only figure out that damn layout thing, stinking thing won't load for anything)

in your mame.ini file?

I'm an idiot.

....ok, fixed the mame thing, but still new to MAMEWAH, and don't know how to get it to see my controller.

For MameWah, set the joystick from 0 to 1 in the default.ini file in the ctrlr folder.

This might be a STUPID question, but why are joysticks turned OFF by default in mame? You would have to search and search and search to come up with any reasoning behind it that has made sense beyond those .1x versions that had the joysticks and keyboard keys in different input areas.

It makes no sense. If you have no joysticks then setting joystick to 1 hurts nothing, if you have them then I am pretty sure you would want them to work.

Somewhere there must be some mamedev who doesn't want his joystick to be able to control his game.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
