Happ Highball Trackball Lip problem?
« on: November 09, 2004, 02:48:17 pm »
I've seen another thread on this but it was a little vague.  I Have a Highball Trackball and have noticed that the lip sits slightly above the trackball plate.  I have flush-mounted the trackball plate in my CPanel and am worried about laying the CPO and lexan over the top.  I assume the lexan will be ever so slightly raised (in the middle) because of this lip.  Any suggestions what can be done about this?  Sanding the lip off perhaps so that the lexan sits flush firm against the CP ?

cheers

I believe you cut the lexan to fit around the lip so the lip is flush with the lexan...I believe this is the very reason a high lip version exists.

The lexan for my cp is 4mm thick...I don't think the lip on the trackball rides up this far...?

I would think it is 1/8" or 3.175mm.  Close enough no?

If the lip on the trackball is too high, why not lower the trackball?  You could stick washers on the posts above the trackball to take up the extra space.

I used a router with a chamfer bit to route the Lexan to the diameter of the lip with a bevel so the lip is flush with the Lexan.

cool idea rdagger - cheers...methinx that will give the best finish!..will have to see if i have a bullnose bit etc

Also thanks Whammoed, I haven't actually measure the lip, but if it does 'protrude' that far (nearly 4mm) then that should be great.  Feel a bit of an idiot now - doh!
