mozilla firefox 1.0
« on: November 09, 2004, 08:35:50 am »
I've been using firefox since way back when it was first created for linux =) it's a great web browser that now works on any OS.
1.0 just came out, I urge everyone to try it as tabbed bookmarks and browsing, pop up blocker, and faster speed are just too good to pass up compared to MS broken ie...

hurray for firefox!

I tried it like 2 weeks ago, and couldn't get the tabs to work well.  I went back to this beast called SlimBrowser.  I'm pretty sure it still uses IE, but it "tabs" really well.

What kind of issues did you have with the tabs?  I've been using it since .9 (or something) without issue.

Weird.  I've been using Firefox since like 0.6 and have NEVER had any problems with Tabs.

Firefox > *

There is just no way around it, I love it very much.  I've tried IE, Opera, MYIE2, etc etc, and nothing compares.  I've been using Firefox for quite a while now and don't ever plan on turning back.

Now I just wish the theme/extension authors would get moving on updating to 1.0 .  Most of my extensions don't work anymore, and that makes me very sad, haha.

My problem with the tabs was that they didn't open when I opened a new page.  i found the place that had the setting, but when I changed it, the behavior of the broswer didn't change.

And i really like the way this stupid slimbrowser works...so...I dunno...maybe I'm too used to it.

I think Opera lost it at 9 or 10. I loved 7and8, but not 9/10.

Bumping this up now that I'd really like to start using Firefox....

the thing that I want Firefox to do is open links in a new tab, instead of a new window.  like on the BYOAC forums links always open in a new window...instead of a new window I want it to open in a new tab.  Basicly I don't want there to be 20 copies of the browser open, so when my boss walks in I can minimize the 1 window and I'm done.  :)

Allroy

This is an option within Firefox, although it is hidden IIRC.  Go to mozilla.org and read up a bit, it's all there.  Firefox is absurdly easy to configure to your liking.

Right click on the link > open link in new tab. Easy.

Firefox is the best browser out there IMO.

It is not about minimization silly.

Just open up an application full screen.

Leave your browser smaller than full screen and just click on the full screen app.

That way you can have as many fun apps open without worry.  ;D

bah..I have it set so my middle mouse click will minimize any window I'm in.  No matter where I click on it.  That way i don't look suspicious flying up to the right and clicking....

Anyway, That works now...Thanks pointdablame!

Now I'm bummed because I can't bypass stuff on our intranet via the No Proxy for: list

in IE you can tell it not to use your proxy server for 10*, 127*, lb*
but in Firefox you have to put in the whole address.  you can do a domain, like .arcadecontrols.com but  can't do a 10.  :(

Allroy

PS I did some research and I think this is by design...or not completed yet.  :(

Allroy, check out the "extensions" page.

I seem to remember something related to what you're talking about, but I could also just as easily be losing my mind  :P

You'll also see some stuff that will make your Firefox experience FAR nicer than you ever thought a browser could be!

Middle mouse click on any link in firefox and it opens the link in a new tab.  No extension necessary.

I've been using the 'Tabbed Browsing' extension. You can set it to open all links in a new tab, or just pop-ups, or just links to external sites. Two monkeythumbs up!

Well, it's an issue if your middle mouse is set to minimize the current active window for quick hiding.......I thought I said that.  ;)

Anyway, if you add some lines to your user.js it'll give you hidden options in the tab area...found it in the tips and tricks.

Now if there was just a way to make the proxy thing a little smarter.   :)

Holding down the CTRL key on the keyboard when clicking on a link also opens the page on its own Tab...

There is an option to move them to the bottom using an extension.  That's how I do it.  Much prefer the tabs at the bottom...

pdb, go back to studying.

Install the Adblock extension.  When it pops up, make sure that the popunder is highlighted.  Click the Adblock name (mine is at the bottom right of my screen).  It'll pop up a window that allows you to block that popunder from happening again.  Look in the box that pops up for a script, block that script too.

It started happening with one of my favorite sites.....click click click....BLAM!  It no more worky!

And it SERIOUSLY pissed me off the first time I saw it, since there's ads ALL OVER the site itself!

I had these scary visions of Art turning blue in the face holding his breath while waiting for your answer ;)

The funny thing was after I told him how to fix it, I got a popunder at that site and realized I had forgotten to block the SCRIPT, which would just serve a different ad, and I didn't want to have this monster list of blocked sites....took me a good long look to realize what was going on there!

yup.. can't just block the ad.. they've got a seemingly never ending supply of those ;)

As for Art turning blue.. let's hope it didn't come to that.  On another note though, I got that essay done  ;D  That professor really is an angel.. she didn't even care it was late.
