Tekken 3 JAMMA Set-up
« on: November 07, 2004, 02:03:07 am »
I recently purchased a Tekken 3 board and have a few quick questions.

1. Are the schematics in the Tekken 2 Operator's Manual the same for Tekken 3?
2. Is the 48-Way connector the same as the kick harness?
3. On some sites it says that if you want to stereo in a JAMMA cab that you need external amps.  On Tekken 3, since the right speaker is connected from the 48-Way connector, is an external amp still necessary or is stereo already handled by the board?

Sorry if any of these questions seem dumb but I'd like to hook it up right the first time when it gets here.  Thanks.

Questions #1&2 I'm not so sure about, but there is a good chance the pinouts are the same as Tekken2.

As for question #3, you will need an external amp for that board. If you look at it, there are hookups for RCA cables to goto an amp right on the board.

I believe it is all the same, but you are probably better to check against the tekken tag manual, as it like tekken3 is a System12 board:

http://www.namco.co.uk/Namco%20new/Page%204/PDF/Namco%20Manuals/Tekken_Tag_Manual.pdf

From what I've seen, all versions are basically the same, except TTT also uses JAMMA button 3 for the tag button.

Not 100% percent sure that the external amp is required?  My TTT is wired for stereo and I still control the main volume on the TTT board itself.

Grauwulf:  I did see those and wondered what they would be used for.  What you said definitely makes sense to me.

wonderboy:  Reading the Tekken 2 manual I did see that there is a volume control on the board.  Just to verify, you have your Tekken Tag board hooked up to stereo without an external amp and everything works great?

I guess I'll check it out when it gets here.  Thanks a lot both for your help.

Definately wired for stereo.  Onboard volume control more than capable of amplifying the sound to disturbing levels for my girlfriends ears!  :P

I finally got a hold of a Tekken 3 operation manual and my questions have been mostly answered by it.  It seems that the audio jacks, video out, etc are unused so it looks like you were right on the money about the stereo being hooked in without an external amp, wonderboy.

One more question, though:  In the manual it shows no GND connections off of B9/B10 on the kick harness, but they are used in Tekken, Tekken 2 and Tekken Tag.  Should I do as the manual says and not use GND or should I connect them anyway.  Thanks again.

Where did you source the manual from?  It came with the package?

My guess is wiring the GNDs would be fine, and its a case of missed information.

Quite frankly, if I purchased a Tekken 3 board, I would have on concerns wiring it to my cabinet as is.  Considering T1, T2 & TTT schematics are basically the same, don't she why T3 would be any different.

Audio wise, mine is actually wired from the pcb connectors, not the audio jacks.

No, I got a PDF of it from Crazykong.com.  It is weird that GND is used in all the Tekken series but Tekken 3, so you may be right about it being an oversight.
